Xbox is bringing 25 playable games to Gamescom for its 25th anniversary
Microsoft's Cologne booth will feature 140 stations and hands-on demos for Gears of War: E-Day, Modern Warfare 4, and Alien: Isolation 2.
Xbox has detailed its Gamescom 2026 lineup, confirming 140 gaming stations and 25 playable upcoming titles for its booth in Cologne, Germany. The event runs from August 26 to August 30 and doubles as a celebration of the brand's 25th anniversary.
According to the Xbox Game Pass blog, the massive booth in Hall 7 will focus heavily on hands-on experiences for games launching later this year and into 2027. Gamescom has served as Europe's premier gaming trade show since it replaced the Leipzig Games Convention in 2009, routinely drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees. Microsoft is using that massive floor space to get unreleased games into public hands.
140 stations and an October prequel
The playable roster includes several major first-party releases. Attendees can try Gears of War: E-Day before its release. The prequel, developed by The Coalition, jumps back 14 years before the 2006 original game to cover the initial Locust Horde assault on planet Sera. Putting Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago back in the spotlight is a direct play for older fans who grew up with the Xbox 360.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is also playable on the show floor. Activision's latest military shooter continues the rebooted sub-series. This is another major test of how Microsoft handles the Call of Duty franchise under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Other confirmed first-party titles include the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons II.
Alien and third-party partners
The booth is not limited to internal studios. The announcement lists METRO 2039, STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, and Alien: Isolation 2 among the playable demos. We already knew Sega was bringing the xenomorph sequel to Germany, as previously reported, but its inclusion in the Xbox booth points to a shared marketing push.
For people who cannot make it to the Koelnmesse convention center, Microsoft is running live broadcasts on YouTube and Twitch. The streams will feature developer interviews, gameplay reveals, and new trailers throughout the week.
While the floor is dedicated to hands-on demos, the digital broadcasts usually cover titles that are further out. Playground Games is currently working on a reboot of Fable, reviving the action-RPG series that debuted in 2004 under Lionhead Studios. It is entirely possible we see more of that project during the developer interviews.
25 years of hardware
Microsoft launched the original Xbox in November 2001. To mark the quarter-century milestone, the Gamescom booth includes interactive exhibits covering every console generation. The company is leaning into the nostalgia of the early Xbox Live days and the hardware that established franchises like Halo and Forza. Over the last 25 years, the platform has shifted from a heavy reliance on physical console sales to a broader ecosystem built around PC gaming and cloud streaming.
The anniversary events also include the return of Xbox FanFest. The community event takes place on August 26 from 8pm to 11pm CEST, just before the main public booth opens the following day. Getting a ticket to FanFest usually requires some luck, but it offers a quieter environment to test the demos before the general admission crowds arrive.
