The latest expansion for SEGA's museum management simulator lets you build custom roller coasters and haunted houses right next to your priceless artifacts.

Two Point Museum adds custom coasters in Rides and Relics launch

Two Point Studios and SEGA have released the Rides and Relics expansion for Two Point Museum. The add-on brings classic theme park attractions into the management simulator, and it's available today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

SEGA originally revealed the expansion in September. It follows the game's earlier post-launch roadmap, including the art-focused update we covered previously. The launch trailer shows off exactly how much chaos you can inject into a supposedly educational environment.

The core addition is custom roller coaster construction. You can draw your own tracks, adjusting the inclination, height, and curves to fit around your existing exhibits. The interface grades the track based on its intensity, letting you build gentle rides for children or massive drops for thrill-seekers.

It's not just coasters. The expansion adds a variety of flat rides, including haunted houses, spinning teacups, and swinging pirate ships decorated with sea-monster tentacles. You can drop these right next to historical ruins and priceless artifacts. I want to see how the pathing AI handles guests losing their lunch after a coaster ride right next to the gift shop.

The Bullfrog history

Adding theme park mechanics to a Two Point game makes a lot of sense when you look at the studio's history. Two Point Studios founders Mark Webley and Gary Carr previously worked at Bullfrog Productions. They helped build the original Theme Park in 1994, along with Theme Hospital.

They've spent the last few years modernizing the hospital and university management genres. Now they're bringing coaster construction back into their repertoire. The tools shown in the trailer look robust, with a modular building system that snaps track pieces together while displaying real-time stats for the ride's highs and lows.

Educational enrichment

The voiceover in the trailer frames all of this as a natural extension of the learning process. The premise is that you're providing enrichment through authentic historical experiences, which apparently includes strapping patrons into a high-speed cart.

To support the new attractions, the DLC introduces a new staff type: the Funfair Expert. You've got to send these experts out on expeditions to a ruined location called Gearbox Land to find new blueprints and ride components. The expansion includes over 17 new amusement-themed exhibits and interactive displays.

You still have to manage the standard museum operations alongside the chaos. The exhibits need curation, the staff needs breaks, and the facilities require constant maintenance. The rides just add another layer of complexity to the simulation. You have to balance the educational buzz of your displays with the sheer noise of an amusement park. It also throws in new infrastructure options, like helipads and dedicated ticket booths, to handle the increased foot traffic.

Rides and Relics is out now. The base game is required to play, and you can find it on the official Steam page or console storefronts. The Japanese release, localized as ユーエンチアム, includes full Japanese voice support. If you already have your museum running efficiently, this is probably the fastest way to ruin your carefully planned floor layout.
