Tomb Raider Remastered and Lords of the Fallen hit PS Plus in April
April's PlayStation Plus lineup brings three solid action games to the service, including a 20-player anime raid experience.
Sony has revealed the PlayStation Plus monthly games for April 2026. The update brings Lords of the Fallen, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream to all subscriber tiers. According to the PlayStation Blog, I am genuinely thrilled about this entire slate.
Two worlds, no jump button
Lords of the Fallen is Hexworks' 2023 reboot of the 2014 Soulslike of the same name. The hook here is the dual-world mechanic. You explore the living world of Axiom, but when you die or use a specific lantern, you drop into the nightmare realm of Umbral. The two maps overlap entirely. A blocked path in Axiom might be a bridge in Umbral.
The Soulslike genre is crowded these days, but this game carves out its own space with the Umbral lamp. You can raise the lamp to peer into the realm of the dead to reveal hidden bridges or secret doors that do not exist in the physical world. If you get pulled fully into Umbral, you have one chance to fight your way back to a checkpoint before dying permanently.
The combat is heavy and deliberate, running on Unreal Engine 5. Just keep your expectations in check regarding platforming. The 2023 release received an update (Version 2.0) in April 2025 that added a dedicated jump button, allowing players to jump anytime, anywhere, without sprinting. Still, the dark fantasy aesthetic and brutal boss fights make this a massive get for the Essential tier.
Aspyr's 32-bit restoration
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered bundles Lara Croft's first three PlayStation adventures into a single package. Developer Aspyr did excellent work preserving the underlying code of the 1996 to 1998 Core Design originals. The physics, enemy placements, and level geometry remain identical to the PS1 releases.
The collection also packs in the expansions for all three games: Unfinished Business, The Golden Mask, and The Lost Artifact. These levels were historically difficult to play on consoles, as they were originally released exclusively for PC players. You can toggle between the original blocky polygons and updated modern visuals on the fly. The collection adds modern analog stick controls as an alternative to the classic tank controls.
The collection includes modern bells and whistles such as a photo mode. It is strictly a faithful restoration of the original trilogy, complete with the punishing save systems and brutal trap rooms that defined 90s action games. I am eager to revisit these early tombs.
20-player anime raids
I am saving my highest praise for Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream. Dimps developed this co-op action game, and it leans heavily into large-scale multiplayer chaos. The premise involves a time-and-space distortion that mashes up characters from across the entire anime franchise.
You can play as Kirito, Asuna, Leafa, and dozens of other characters. Each roster member is assigned to a specific combat role like Fighter, Tank, Support, or Mage. The real draw is the 20-player co-op mode. You team up in four-person parties and join four other groups to tackle massive raid bosses. Dimps has a long history of making competent anime fighters and action games, dating back to the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series on the PlayStation 2.
Getting a multiplayer-focused game like this on PlayStation Plus is perfect timing. The influx of new players will instantly populate the matchmaking servers. This saves the game from the low player counts that often plague niche anime titles a few months after launch.
