September 5th week in review
A look back at the first week of September 2026, featuring new Amiga ports, returning NES creators, and the revival of Amnesia Fortnight.
It was a busy first week of September for classic gaming and hardware revivals. From unexpected PC engine ports to original creators returning to their 8-bit roots, the last few days brought a solid mix of preservation and new projects. Here's what happened this week.
Studio WING's 1988 horror adventure Onryou Senki is out on Switch. The PC-8801 occult detective game arrives on EGGCONSOLE today, bringing paranormal investigations to modern hardware.
The Battle of Olympus is getting a PC remake from its original creators. The 1988 NES action-RPG is returning in January 2027 with new 16-bit pixel art, built by the same husband-and-wife team who made the original.
Double Fine launches its Amnesia Fortnight 2026 Kickstarter. The newly independent studio is back to crowdfunding its two-week game jam, and backers get to vote on 26 different pitches. This is either genius or madness, but I'm curious to see what wins.
Xbox launches a woodland-themed accessory line with 8BitDo and SteelSeries. Microsoft's new Designed for Xbox Cozy Collection brings earth tones and pixelated trees to controllers, keyboards, and earbuds.
The original Grand Theft Auto is finally playable on an Amiga. AmiGTA is a new open-source engine that brings DMA Design's 1997 classic to classic 68k hardware.
We'll see what next week brings as the fall release schedule starts to pick up.
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is available on Humble Bundle for $14.99 (50% off).
