LUNARK Channels 90s Cinematic Platformers in Humble Bundle Sale
WayForward highlights a significant discount on the sci-fi adventure title, plus a minor maintenance update for the PCSX2 emulator.
According to a recent post by WayForward, the sci-fi adventure LUNARK is currently available for 65% off. The discount is part of the "New Classics Sale" currently running on Humble Bundle.
Rotoscoping for a New Generation
While WayForward is best known for the Shantae series, they have a habit of amplifying retro-inspired titles that might otherwise fly under the radar. LUNARK leans heavily into the aesthetic of Flashback and Another World, using rotoscoped animation to give its pixel art a fluid, realistic motion that feels distinct from the snappy movement of a Mario or Sonic title.
"Inspired by '90s cinematic platformers, LUNARK - according to some fans and critics - may be as good as the classics that preceded it!" WayForward wrote.
It is rare to see a modern game commit so fully to this specific sub-genre. Most developers smooth out the controls to meet modern expectations, but doing so often breaks the illusion of weight that defined the classics. LUNARK attempts to keep that spirit alive without the frustration of input lag that plagued the 16-bit era.
