Jet Force Gemini gets a save editor for RetroArch
TL Romhacks just released a Windows tool that lets you edit your Jet Force Gemini save files, skip the Tribal hunt, and unlock everything.
ROM hacker and tool developer TL Romhacks released version 1.0.0 of a Jet Force Gemini Save Editor for 64-bit Windows today. The utility allows players to open RetroArch .srm save files, modify character stats, and bypass the game's notorious progression roadblocks.
In case you need some help in Jet Force Gemini, this save game editor was just released. It is a free download on GitHub, and it looks like exactly what you want for a modern replay.
Skipping the worst part
Rare's 1999 Nintendo 64 shooter is a classic, but it has a massive pacing issue. To reach the final boss, players have to backtrack through every level and rescue every single Tribal in the galaxy. It's a grueling requirement that kills the momentum of an otherwise excellent action game.
The jfg-save-editor fixes that. You can manually set the tribal counts for remaining, rescued, and killed. If you just want to shoot space ants and ignore the collect-a-thon entirely, you can give yourself the 12 required spaceship parts and move on to the finale.
Jet Force Gemini launched in October 1999, right in the middle of Rare's golden era on the Nintendo 64. It sat alongside GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark as a pillar of the console's shooter library. But unlike those games, Jet Force Gemini leans heavily into platforming and exploration. The game forces you to switch between Juno, Vela, and Lupus to access different areas of the same planets, which makes the late-game cleanup even more tedious.
Built for ROM hacks
The developer originally built the tool to streamline playtesting for an upcoming Jet Force Gemini ROM hack. Testing late-game scenarios in the original engine takes hours of setup, so a tool that can instantly drop a fully upgraded character into a specific level is a necessity.
The Nintendo 64 modding scene has historically focused on Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Jet Force Gemini ROM hacks are rare, making TL Romhacks' upcoming project an interesting development on its own. A dedicated save editor is a good indicator that the modding tools for the game are maturing.
The editor includes input validation that clamps invalid values to the closest valid number. This prevents file corruption if you accidentally type a health value the game cannot read. It only works with the .srm format used by RetroArch and other Libretro cores. If you are playing on original hardware or a different emulator, you will need to convert your save file first.
Unlocking Floyd early
Beyond skipping the end-game grind, the tool lets you edit unlocked weapons, inventory items, and the current location of Juno, Vela, and Lupus. You can unlock characters early, grab the jetpack upgrade, modify your health, and unlock Floyd along with his mission medals.
It also handles weapon ammo, max capacity, Mizar tokens, drone heads, and multiplayer totems. You can even set which title screen variant the game displays on boot.

Jet Force Gemini hasn't always been easy to revisit. Between the awkward original control scheme and the massive collection requirements, it demands a lot of patience. Tools like this strip away the friction and let you just play the good parts.
