Fate/EXTRA Record launches in January 2027
Type-Moon's remake of the 2010 PSP RPG finally has a release date and a massive physical edition.
XSEED Games and Type-Moon have scheduled Fate/EXTRA Record for a January 28, 2027 release. The remake of the 2010 PlayStation Portable RPG is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, a successor Nintendo console, and PC via Steam.
The original game has been stranded on its native hardware for over a decade. This new version was built from the ground up in Unreal Engine by Type-Moon studio BB. The developers didn't just upscale the graphics. They completely replaced the old rock-paper-scissors combat.
Deck building on the moon
Players now use a deck-building strategic battle system to command their Servants in real time. You'll still fight through the Moon Holy Grail War, a 128-master tournament where only one person survives, but the visual presentation is entirely modernized. The grid-based dungeon exploration remains intact.
You still pick a Servant class like Saber, Archer, or Caster to fight alongside you. The UI design heavily emphasizes the new card-based command structure during these encounters.
SteelBooks and art books
A physical Limited Edition includes a custom outer box, a SteelBook case, a three-disc soundtrack, and an art book with over 100 pages. A Digital Deluxe version includes alternate costumes and arranged background music from the 2010 release, as detailed on the official Japanese website. That site also lists a "Super" Limited Edition featuring a framed print by artist Wada Arco.
Getting a full remake is a much better outcome than a simple upscaled port. The combat overhaul alone makes this worth paying attention to when it arrives in 2027.
