Xbox is giving away a Forza Horizon 6 trip to Japan with Sung Kang

Xbox has partnered with actor and car enthusiast Sung Kang to give away a curated trip to Japan celebrating the upcoming release of Forza Horizon 6. The sweepstakes offers fans a chance to experience the real-world car culture that inspired the game's new setting.

Forza Horizon 6 finally takes the open-world racing franchise to Japan. Fans of the series have requested this location for over a decade. Playground Games is leaning heavily into the country's automotive history, and bringing in Kang is a logical promotional step. He is best known for playing Han Lue in the Fast and Furious franchise, starting with the 2006 film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Outside of acting, Kang is deeply involved in the automotive community. He hosts a car podcast and famously built an award-winning custom Datsun 240Z known as the Fugu Z.

Drifting masterclass and Liberty Walk

Microsoft has detailed the exact itinerary of Sung Kang's curated trip. The winner will get a packed schedule of automotive and cultural events. The trip includes cruising in a Japanese Domestic Market car at night and taking a drifting masterclass. Winners will also get a tuning and livery design session at Liberty Walk. This aftermarket company, founded by Wataru Kato, is famous worldwide for cutting up high-end exotic cars to install massive widebody kits.

The automotive tourism continues with a Tokyo Drift location tour riding in the original cars from the film. Kang himself will join the winner for a walk and snack tour. The trip rounds out with a sumo challenge and an advance screening of his new film, Drifter.

Mountain passes and highway loops

The Forza Horizon series has always tried to blend arcade racing with authentic car culture. Previous entries took players to Colorado, southern Europe, Australia, Great Britain, and Mexico. Japan offers a completely different landscape. Players can expect tight mountain passes built for drifting and massive highway loops inspired by the real-life Wangan.

Playground Games spent the last few years expanding Forza Horizon 5 with expansions based on Hot Wheels and rally racing. The shift to Japan requires an entirely new map design. The narrow, winding roads of the Japanese countryside demand different driving techniques compared to the wide open deserts of Mexico. Drifting will likely play a much larger role in the core campaign structure.

Kang's involvement bridges the gap between gaming and mainstream car media. His character in Tokyo Drift introduced an entire generation of moviegoers to Japanese tuning culture. Having him curate a trip that includes riding in the actual movie cars is a clever way to tap into that specific mid-2000s nostalgia.
