WiZmans World Re;Try arrives in the West

WiZmans World Re;Try, a fully remastered version of the classic JRPG, has officially launched worldwide for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. This release marks the title's debut in Western territories, bringing a cult favorite to a new audience. The game originally launched in Japan for the Nintendo DS in 2010.

Developed by City Connection and published by Clear River Games, WiZmans World Re;Try offers an HD remaster of Jaleco's original game. The remaster includes updated 2D pixel art, a rearranged soundtrack with new music by Japanese instrumental unit soLi, and various quality-of-life improvements. Players can expect features like "Save Anywhere," dialogue skip, a Monster Encyclopedia, and a New Game+ mode, enhancing the playability while aiming to preserve the authenticity of the original experience.

A World Re;Tried

WiZmans World Re;Try is set in the isolated city of Wizarest, a place cut off from the outside world for over a century, where its citizens have lost their memories. Players step into the shoes of Claus, a young wizard who, along with his three homunculus companions, embarks on a journey into monster-filled dungeons to uncover the city's secrets and find a way to escape their isolation. A key gameplay mechanic is "Anima Fusion," which allows homunculi to absorb monster souls after defeating them, transforming their abilities, stats, and appearance. The game features turn-based combat where strategic judgment, considering elemental affinities and the timeline, is important for victory. Player choices throughout the game also shape the narrative and the fate of Wizarest.

The original WiZmans World was noted for its pixel art graphics and challenging difficulty. While the remaster has refined the visuals, some reviewers have noted that character sprites can appear somewhat "crunchy" on larger displays, contrasting with the improved backgrounds and character art. The game does not feature voice acting, relying on text for its narrative delivery.

WiZmans World Re;Try is available digitally across all announced platforms. Physical editions are also available for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Steam is offering a 10% discount on the game until March 5.
