Indie developer Demon Max has announced Too Deep To Quit, a one to four player physics-based co-op survival game coming to PC later this year. The game made its debut during the Triple I Initiative 2026 showcase on April 9, appearing alongside 39 other indie titles in the broadcast.

The core loop revolves around guiding floppy, puppet-like characters through procedurally generated dungeons. Players have to navigate a variety of hazards to collect treasure and extract safely.

Four puppets and a lot of traps

The gameplay relies heavily on its physics engine. Every movement and interaction has a weight to it, which naturally leads to chaotic ragdoll moments when things go wrong. Players can use different tools to bypass obstacles, but the environments are actively hostile. The dungeons are filled with spike traps, crushing blocks, and aggressive wildlife like giant spiders and snakes.

Because the levels are procedurally generated, the layout and trap placements change with every run. The goal is to grab as much loot as possible and find an extraction point before the dungeon claims your team. You can play it solo, but the mechanics are clearly built around the friction of four players trying to coordinate their clumsy puppet bodies through narrow corridors.

I think this game looks incredibly fun. The trailer shows exactly the kind of high-stakes, low-coordination gameplay that makes for a great game night. I already added it to my Steam wishlist. There is something inherently funny about watching a friend's character get launched across a room by a hidden spring trap because they walked slightly too far to the left.

Demon Max enters the co-op space

Too Deep To Quit is being developed and published by Demon Max. The studio previously developed and published 'Guilty as Sock!', which was released on Steam in May 2025. Earning a spot in the Triple I Initiative showcase is a solid starting point for the project. The event focuses entirely on independent games and has a track record of highlighting titles that go on to find massive audiences.

The indie co-op survival genre has exploded over the last few years. Games that force players to communicate while dealing with unpredictable physics or terrifying monsters consistently dominate Steam's top seller lists. Too Deep To Quit seems to be aiming for a lighter, more slapstick tone than some of its horror-focused contemporaries. It leans closer to the chaotic platforming of Spelunky mixed with the team-based extraction mechanics of Lethal Company.

A 2026 release window on Steam

Currently, the game is only confirmed for PC. It has a Steam store page up now, though Demon Max has not provided a specific launch day beyond a general 2026 release window.

The developers have confirmed it will support online co-op for up to four players right out of the gate. Given the physics-heavy nature of the game, a stable network connection will likely be crucial for making sure everyone sees the same ridiculous ragdoll deaths at the same time.

We will keep an eye out for a more concrete release date as the year progresses. For now, the trailer provides a good look at the kind of subterranean disaster management players can expect.
