TMNT Splintered Fate just added Alopex to the roster

Alopex, the mutant arctic fox ninja, is now a playable character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate through a newly released DLC pack. Super Evil Megacorp launched the expansion today across all platforms. The update adds her high-speed combat style and unique artifacts to the roguelike brawler.

Alopex fights with a sickle-like kama and relies on speed to overwhelm enemies. She can throw kunai for burst damage at close range and has an ability that makes her temporarily invulnerable when targeting multiple foes in rapid succession. Ninja powers that modify shuriken also affect her kunai. This means you can stack Water or Flame elemental damage on her ranged attacks for maximum impact. Since she attacks so quickly, building around status effects is likely the optimal way to play her.

The DLC also includes a new story thread focused on her troubled past with the Foot Clan. In the IDW comic series where she debuted in 2011, Alopex started as an assassin fiercely loyal to Shredder before eventually defecting to ally with the Turtles. The game leans into this history by having her face off against her former sister-in-arms, Karai.

A proper roguelike

If you missed Splintered Fate during its staggered release schedule, you have plenty of platforms to choose from now. The game originally launched as an Apple Arcade exclusive in May 2023. It eventually made its way to Nintendo Switch and PC in 2024 before finally landing on PlayStation and Xbox consoles last summer.

The structure borrows heavily from Hades. You fight through randomized rooms in familiar New York locations, collect temporary elemental power-ups, and return to the sewer lair to spend permanent upgrade currency when you die. It is a formula that works perfectly for the Turtles. The cooperative multiplayer allows up to four people to run the gauntlet together, which adds a layer of chaotic fun that single-player roguelikes usually lack.

As a lifelong TMNT fan, I think this game is an absolute delight. Between this, Shredder's Revenge, and the Cowabunga Collection, TMNT fans have been eating well over the past few years.

Artifacts and pepper runs

The paid Alopex DLC includes five new equippable artifacts to modify your runs. The standout addition is Buddy the Wraith. This item gives you an allied Utrom companion that levels up and evolves as you progress through a run. Other artifacts alter how your dash and special abilities function. The Hot Cocoa artifact removes one of your available dashes but grants a massive burst of movement speed when you do dodge.

Super Evil Megacorp also released a free update alongside the paid character. This patch adds a new Ninja Ranks prestige system and introduces 4-Pepper challenges to Arcade Mode. These runs are designed specifically for players who have completely maxed out their permanent Dragon Upgrades and need a harder difficulty ceiling. The developers also added new combat rooms to the Sewers, Docks, Streets, and Rooftops biomes.

The roster in Splintered Fate has grown beyond the initial four brothers. The core team was enough to carry the initial release. They each have distinct playstyles, with Raphael excelling at critical hits and Donatello focusing on tool cooldowns. Super Evil Megacorp added Casey Jones earlier this year in the Junkyard Jam expansion. Adding Alopex today gives players even more reasons to experiment with different build combinations. Her focus on invulnerability frames and elemental kunai strikes should give experienced players a completely different way to approach Shredder's gauntlet.
