Tifa Lockhart is coming to Street Fighter 6

Capcom has announced the Year 4 character roster for Street Fighter 6. The upcoming season introduces three original fighters and brings Final Fantasy VII's Tifa Lockhart into the Capcom universe.

Fans have asked for Tifa to join a fighting game for years. Now she is officially stepping into the ring. The martial artist from Nibelheim headlines a four-character pass. She is joined by returning World Tour rival Bosch and two brand new faces: a blade-wielder named Yasmine and a muscular grappler named Arjun.

Capcom introduced the new cast with an anime-inspired art style before showing their in-game models. Yasmine is up first. She fights with dual blades. Weapon users are relatively uncommon in Street Fighter outside of specific fighters like Vega or Eagle. She will be the first to release on August 3.

Arjun follows in autumn 2026. He appears to be a heavy-hitting grappler. The game already has a strong grapple game with Zangief and Manon. Arjun will need a distinct mechanical hook to carve out his own space in the meta.

Tifa lands in early 2027. Bosch rounds out the schedule in spring 2027. Both the Year 4 Character Pass and the Ultimate Pass are available to purchase now.

Graduating from World Tour

Bosch has been part of the game since it launched in 2023. He is the player's primary rival in the single-player World Tour mode. He spent the last three years restricted to NPC status. His jump to the main roster gives players a chance to finally control his erratic martial arts style directly.

Guest characters are rare in mainline Street Fighter games. Capcom usually reserves crossovers for the Versus series or games like Super Smash Bros. Tifa is the first third-party guest character to join the core Street Fighter 6 roster.

Fighting game fans have requested Tifa for years. Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada frequently fielded questions about adding her to Tekken 7 and Tekken 8, often having to explain the complexities of licensing. She ultimately bypassed the 3D fighting arena entirely to join Capcom's 2D engine. Her redesign for Street Fighter 6 adapts her classic Final Fantasy VII Remake look to fit alongside Ryu and Chun-Li.

A new entry point

PlayStation posted the announcement, but the new characters are not exclusive to Sony consoles. The Year 4 pass is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom also released a new bundle. The Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition packs the base game with the first two years of DLC characters. It gives late adopters a way to catch up without buying multiple separate season passes.

The roster size continues to grow at a steady pace of four characters per year. Tifa's inclusion opens the door for other third-party guests in the future. We will see how her Materia-based combat translates to a traditional six-button fighting game when she arrives next year.
