Arc System Works and Taito have released the free Boosted update for Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The patch is live today, bringing a wave of new roguelike mechanics and rooms to the 2025 spin-off, according to the publisher's official announcement.

The official launch trailer for the Boosted update.

This update coincides with the 40th anniversary of the original 1986 arcade game. Sugar Dungeons takes the classic single-screen platforming of Fukio Mitsuji's original design and stretches it into procedurally generated candy mazes. The base game launched in November 2025 and proved that the old bubble-blowing mechanics translate surprisingly well to a modern dungeon crawler format.

Three new doors in Bob's Gate

The core of the Boosted patch is Bob's Room, which players can access via the in-dungeon Bob's Gate. Once inside, you have to choose between three bonus destinations: the Skip Gate, the Combo Room, and the Item Room. This adds a much-needed layer of decision-making to the mid-game progression.

The Item Room introduces several new pickups to the loot pool. The Chack'n Cake grants temporary invincibility, while the x2 Gummy and Gold Sugarees act as resource multipliers. I think the resource multipliers are exactly what the endgame needed, as runs could previously stall out in the later castle stages if the random number generator refused to cooperate. Having a dedicated room to fix a bad build makes the harder difficulties far more manageable.

A 25 percent discount across all platforms

To coincide with the patch, the base game is currently 25 percent off on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Nintendo eShop. If you buy the game now, the Boosted content is included automatically.

Arc System Works is primarily known for fighting games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, but their publishing arm has been instrumental in bringing legacy Japanese properties to global audiences. Taito, which has been a Square Enix subsidiary since 2006, relies on these partnerships to keep its 1980s catalog relevant. They are still funding actual development for these older properties rather than just dumping ROMs into an emulator wrapper.

The package also still includes a full port of the 1994 arcade game Bubble Symphony as a bonus. Between the arcade original and the newly expanded roguelike mode, it is a solid bundle for anyone looking to trap monsters in bubbles this weekend.
