The 5 Best Games Hitting Xbox the Week of August 24
Microsoft's weekly release roundup is packed with heavy hitters, including a tactical Star Wars game and the long-awaited liberation of Metal Gear Solid 4.
The August 24 to 28 lineup is unusually heavy. Microsoft's latest Next Week on Xbox roundup includes a tactical Star Wars game, a Plague Tale prequel, and the long-awaited liberation of a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Here are five standout picks from the upcoming slate.
5. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
Konami is finally freeing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from its PlayStation 3 prison. The second volume of the Master Collection drops on August 27 for $49.99, and I am mostly curious to see how the famously hardware-bound PS3 code runs on an Xbox Series X.
4. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Focus Entertainment is expanding its rat-infested universe with a prequel set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem. It shifts the focus to the pirate smuggler Sophia as she navigates the Minotaur's Island. Game Pass gets it day one.
3. Apidya' Special
ININ is releasing a ground-up 24-bit remake of the 1992 Commodore Amiga shoot 'em up Apidya. Veteran composer Chris Hülsbeck returned to provide newly remixed studio arrangements for the soundtrack. The $19.99 release launches on August 25.
2. Once Human
NetEase's multiplayer survival game launched on PC back in July to massive player counts, and now it is making the jump to consoles with full Xbox Series X|S support. It is another day-one Game Pass addition.
1. Star Wars Zero Company
Electronic Arts is publishing a single-player turn-based tactics game set in the twilight of the Clone Wars. You command an elite Republic unit called Zero Company against an emerging galactic threat. The $59.99 release drops on August 27. I think a slow-paced tactical approach is exactly what the franchise needs right now.
The sheer variety in this single week is impressive. Between freeing a 2008 stealth classic and dropping a brand new tactical Star Wars campaign, August is closing out with a massive wave of software.
