Super Rare Games has announced physical editions of the twin-stick exploration game Minishoot' Adventures for both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

I need to be clear about my bias here. Minishoot' Adventures is my favorite Zelda-like in years. I bought it on Steam when it launched, and I have been desperately hoping someone would put it on a disc or cartridge so I could put it on my shelf. It is a near-flawless, perfectly balanced game.

Two developers, one tiny ship

Developed by SoulGame Studio, a two-person team based in France, the game launched digitally in early 2024. The studio previously made the Swords & Souls series, which started as popular web browser games before transitioning to premium PC releases. Minishoot' Adventures was a completely different direction from their previous RPG titles. They spent years refining the feel of the ship. The movement is incredibly tight, which is a hard requirement when the screen fills with neon pink enemy projectiles.

The premise sounds like a messy genre collision, but it works perfectly. You control a nimble little spacecraft exploring a handcrafted, interconnected overworld. Instead of swinging a sword, you shoot bullets. Instead of dodging Octorok rocks, you weave through dense, arcade-style bullet hell patterns.

The progression loop is pure classic adventure game design. You find dungeons, defeat bosses, and unlock new abilities that let you access previously unreachable areas of the map. You get a boost ability to cross gaps, which doubles as a dodge mechanic during boss fights. You unlock a heavier shot to break through specific barriers. Every new tool has a dual purpose in combat and exploration.

The reason I consider the balance near-flawless is how it handles difficulty. Twin-stick shooters can easily become frustrating, but SoulGame implemented a generous checkpoint system and a smooth difficulty curve. The game teaches you how to read bullet patterns before throwing you into the deep end. The map design is dense, with zero wasted space and secrets tucked into every corner.

Starting at £32 for the PS5 version

The Super Rare Games product page lists several tiers for the physical release, which is currently marked as coming soon. The standard PlayStation 5 version is listed at £32.40 (roughly $41), while the standard Nintendo Switch version sits at £46.20. The Switch version being more expensive than the PS5 version is a common quirk of modern physical publishing. It usually comes down to the cost of manufacturing Nintendo's proprietary cartridges compared to standard optical discs.

For collectors, there is a Special Edition priced at £64.20, along with premium bundles that climb up to £128.40. Super Rare is also selling standalone trading card packs for the game. The publisher typically includes a full-color manual, interior artwork, an exclusive sticker, and trading cards with their standard editions.

The exact opening date for preorders has not been announced yet, but the placeholder listings are live on their storefront. I have played through the digital version twice already. Having a physical copy is the perfect excuse for a third run.
