Stupid Never Dies gets a playable demo ahead of next week's launch
GPTRACK50's bizarre zombie action RPG drops a 90-second gameplay trailer and a free demo on PS5 and Steam.
SEGA and GPTRACK50 released a playable demo for Stupid Never Dies on PlayStation 5 and PC, alongside a 90-second gameplay trailer ahead of the game's October 21 launch.
This is GPTRACK50's debut project. The studio is led by Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi, whose production credits include Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Devil May Cry. He left Capcom in 2022 to form the new NetEase-backed studio in Osaka, and this game is the team's first release.
You play as Davy, a low-ranking zombie trying to revive his frozen human girlfriend Julia by fighting through a monster-filled dungeon. It's completely absurd. The setup plays out like a punk-rock version of Romeo and Juliet, complete with a chaotic soundtrack and bright, stylized visuals. The developers have cited pop-punk music as a major inspiration for the game's direction, and the soundtrack dynamically shifts between tense exploration tracks and high-energy battle anthems depending on what Davy is doing.
11 ways to be a monster
The new footage details how combat actually works. Davy eats enemies. Consuming the cores of different elite monsters unlocks 11 transformation styles, so you're able to swap into forms like a werewolf, a vampire, or a harpy mid-fight.

The combat system leans heavily on those rapid style changes to deal with different enemy types. It looks fast. That makes sense given the studio's pedigree with character action games. The trailer also briefly shows off the Davy Burst mechanic. Landing attacks builds up a meter that eventually lets Davy overwrite the world with his own imagination, boosting his stats and temporarily changing the environment.
He's also got a body modification system to equip new gear. You'll swap out his arms, legs, and head for different mechanical parts to alter his base stats. Being dead helps. It makes elective surgery a lot easier. The trailer shows a menu where individual limbs can be swapped for scrap metal and heavy weaponry, changing how Davy approaches encounters before he even transforms.

The first two hours
The playable demo is out now on both Steam and the PlayStation Store. It covers the opening sections. GPTRACK50 confirmed earlier this year that the demo includes the first two hours of the campaign, giving players a chance to try the transformation mechanics before buying.
Stupid Never Dies originally debuted at The Game Awards in 2025, and this demo is the first time the public can actually play it before the full release hits PS5 and PC next week for $49.99.

There is also a $59.99 Glorious Idiot Edition that adds cosmetic items and visual effects. I'm curious whether the combat actually holds up past the first few hours, but the punk-rock tone is a nice change of pace. The game launches globally on October 21, with some regions unlocking on October 22. SEGA is publishing it. The partnership was announced over the summer, marking GPTRACK50's first major distribution deal since the studio opened its doors.
