Star Trek Voyager's survival strategy game just got its first DLC

GameXcite and Daedalic Entertainment have released the Across the Unknown Expansion Pass for Star Trek: Voyager, launching the first of four planned DLCs alongside a free Patch 1.8 update. The pass outlines a full year of content for the survival strategy game, beginning with the newly available Delta Chronicles add-on.

A year in the Delta Quadrant

The roadmap stretches through the end of 2026. Following Delta Chronicles, players will get the Equinox DLC in the summer. A currently unnamed story expansion follows in the fall, with a new sector expansion rounding out the year in the winter. All of this content requires the base game to play.

I was not a fan of the Voyager television show when it first aired. Even though it had a fresh premise about a crew stranded in the Delta Quadrant trying to find their way back home, the execution often felt like more of the same episodic television we had already seen in earlier iterations of the franchise. But the series has really grown on me over the years. People are clearly enjoying this video game adaptation, and I always love seeing older science fiction properties get new content instead of just a quick mobile tie-in.

The base game launched back in February for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It operates as a roguelite survival simulator where you manage the ship's resources, handle crew morale, and make tactical decisions from the captain's chair. The developers built the combat system entirely around the concept of command. You do not fly the ship manually like Tom Paris, and you do not aim the weapons like Tuvok. Instead, you direct targets, adjust energy levels, and decide when to launch torpedoes.

Character management and leveling are core components of surviving the procedurally generated star systems. Players prep characters like Tuvok and Dr. Ferra Gagen for away missions from the transporter room. The bulk of the resource management and interior simulation takes place in a side-on cross-section view of the ship. Players have to rebuild and upgrade the U.S.S. Voyager to fit their specific playstyle as they progress through the sectors.

If you have not picked up the game yet, the official PlayStation Store page currently has the standard edition discounted to $27.99. That sale runs until July 30. The game is also available on Xbox, Switch 2, and Steam.

Managing a starship in the Delta Quadrant is inherently stressful. Adding four more expansions to the mix means the crew of the Voyager will have plenty of new hazards to navigate before they ever get close to Earth. I am curious to see how the upcoming Equinox expansion handles the lore, considering the dark path that particular starship took in the television series.
