Splatoon Raiders is getting three new Deep Cut amiibo this Thursday

Nintendo is releasing three new amiibo figures featuring the Deep Cut trio this Thursday, July 23, to coincide with the launch of Splatoon Raiders on the Switch 2. According to Nintendo, the figures depict Shiver, Frye, and Big Man in their new island outfits.

The figures have interconnecting bases. You can snap the three stands together to create a unified display on your shelf. Scanning them in-game unlocks exclusive cosmetic gear for your mechanic character. Honestly, looking at the unified base design, I wish I collected these instead of Funko pops.

A PvE pivot for the series

The amiibo drop lands on the exact same day as the game they are tied to. As we previously reported, Splatoon Raiders is a major departure from the franchise's traditional 4v4 Turf War roots. The Switch 2 title focuses entirely on single-player and co-op PvE action.

Players take on the role of a mechanic who explores the newly surfaced Spirhalite Islands. Instead of painting arenas to score points, you fight off aggressive Salmonid hordes while hunting for treasure alongside the Deep Cut crew. The trio originally debuted in Splatoon 3 back in September 2022 as the hosts for the game's news broadcasts and Splatfest events. This spin-off gives them a much more central role in the narrative. It moves them out of the studio and into the field.

The shift to a dedicated action-adventure format is a big step for a franchise that built its reputation on competitive multiplayer since its Wii U debut in 2015. Nintendo EPD developed the title specifically for the new console hardware. The game utilizes the upgraded graphical fidelity to render the tropical environments and massive boss encounters.

The co-op mechanics in Splatoon Raiders build on the foundation laid by the popular Salmon Run mode from previous games. However, instead of surviving waves in a static arena, teams of players will navigate through linear levels and solve environmental puzzles using their ink weapons. The mechanic class introduces new tools that interact with the ancient technology scattered across the islands.

Island wear

Nintendo has kept the amiibo train running for over a decade now. While other toys-to-life brands folded years ago, the Splatoon line remains highly sought after by players who want the exclusive in-game clothing items. The island wear unlocked by this new set fits the tropical setting of the Spirhalite Islands. It gives players a way to match the aesthetic of the new region.

The interconnecting base is a first for the series. Previous idol groups like the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook had individual circular stands that sat next to each other. The Deep Cut figures are designed to physically lock together to form a diorama that mirrors their in-game stage presence. Big Man takes up the most space, naturally. Shiver and Frye flank him on either side.

The figures will be available at standard retailers starting Thursday alongside the new console hardware.
