Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the Hyperpop Collection, a new series of DualSense controllers and console covers scheduled for release this March. According to the official PlayStation Blog, the collection introduces three distinct colorways designed to replace the standard white aesthetic with high-contrast gradients.

The new lineup consists of three specific variants named Techno, Remix, and Rhythm. Each design features a visual shift from black into a vibrant neon hue, utilizing a specialized paint application to achieve a gradient effect across the hardware's surface. This marks a departure from the solid matte colors typically seen in previous console cover releases like the Midnight Black or Cosmic Red options.

Design and Aesthetics

The collection was spearheaded by PlayStation CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) designers Leo Cardoso and Sae Kobayashi. The goal was to create an "all-new aesthetic" that moves away from the safe, appliance-like look of the launch hardware. The result is a set of accessories that look like they were pulled directly out of a laser tag arena from 1999.

The three options break down as follows:

  • Techno: A shift into a deep magenta or red tone.
  • Remix: A transition into a bright, radioactive lime green.
  • Rhythm: A gradient into a vivid electric blue.

The naming convention and the visual style lean heavily into the current resurgence of Y2K aesthetics. While the original PlayStation 5 design was criticized by some for looking like a popped collar, these new covers effectively dress the console for a rave. It is a bold choice that acknowledges gaming hardware is allowed to look like a toy rather than a router.

Availability

Pre-orders for the Hyperpop Collection will begin later this month, with the hardware shipping to customers in March 2026. The collection includes both the standalone DualSense wireless controllers and the replacement console covers for the PS5.

For collectors, this continues Sony's strategy of releasing modular plates rather than entirely new limited edition consoles. This is generally better for the wallet than the old method of buying a whole new system for a color swap, though it does mean your shelf of loose plastic covers might start looking a bit cluttered. Full pricing details for each region will be available when listings go live on the direct PlayStation store.

Let's not forget that we used to be able to get third party PS5 skins for a reasonable price. Sony sued those vendors. I'm happy with my black 3rd party PS5 plates and will not be changing them. However, these do look pretty cool.
