It is a remarkably slow news day in the retro gaming world, so I spent the morning digging through Humble Bundle to find the best PC games currently priced under five dollars. I was bored. It happens a lot.

Rewinding time for two dollars

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently $1.99 on Humble Bundle. That is an 80 percent discount off its standard $9.99 price tag. Ubisoft Montreal released this 3D platformer in 2003 and completely rewired how developers approached movement in three-dimensional space.

Director Patrice Désilets built a parkour system that still feels fluid today. The combat can feel a bit clunky by modern standards. The platforming, however, remains a masterclass in level design. The time-rewind mechanic also forgives missed jumps without breaking the flow of gameplay. With the official remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time having been cancelled by Ubisoft in January 2026, the original PC release is the best way to play this game on modern hardware.

The blueprint for immersive sims

Nightdive Studios built its entire reputation on reviving dead games. Their 2015 update of Looking Glass Studios' 1994 classic is a perfect example of how to modernize a difficult interface. System Shock: Enhanced Edition drops the price to $1.99, saving you $8.00 off the normal $9.99 cost.

The original DOS release required players to manipulate a complex HUD that felt like operating a spreadsheet. Nightdive mapped the controls to a standard WASD layout. This version adds proper mouselook and support for resolutions up to 4K. It also fixes several notorious bugs from the original code. The 2023 ground-up remake is excellent, but playing the Enhanced Edition shows exactly where games like BioShock and Prey got their DNA. SHODAN is still one of the most intimidating villains in PC gaming.

A roguelike space shooter for a dollar

Rockfish Games launched EVERSPACE in 2017 after a highly successful Kickstarter campaign. It is currently sitting at an absurd 95 percent discount, bringing the $19.99 space shooter down to just $0.99. This is an arcade-style dogfighter built on Unreal Engine 4 with a punishing roguelike loop.

You jump into a sector, scavenge for fuel and weapons, and inevitably die to an overwhelming alien force. Then you use the credits you gathered to permanently upgrade your ship before the next run. The Unreal Engine 4 lighting makes every exploding asteroid and laser blast look fantastic. The sequel pivoted to a massive open-world RPG structure. The original game keeps things tight and focused on pure combat survival.

90 percent off a post-apocalyptic workshop

Pathea Games released My Time At Portia in 2019 to capitalize on the massive audience hungry for crafting and life simulation games. Humble Bundle has it listed for $2.99 right now, which is $27.00 off the standard $29.99 price.

You inherit a neglected workshop in a surprisingly cheerful post-apocalyptic world. The bright, colorful aesthetic hides the fact that you are digging through the ruins of a destroyed civilization. The gameplay loop revolves around gathering resources, building increasingly complex machines, and befriending the local townsfolk. It is a massive time sink. A single playthrough can easily eat up eighty hours of your life. At three dollars, the cost per hour of entertainment is basically zero.
