Humble Bundle is currently running deep discounts on several classic and retro-inspired games. It is a slow news day. I was bored and scrolling through the store looking for backlog filler. Here are some games I love at some great prices. Looking at Eric Chahi's work specifically, I still wonder how they even made Another World back then. The graphics were amazing for the hardware of the time.

A cat in a mech suit for $1.19

Gato Roboto is down to $1.19 from its usual $7.99 price tag. That is an 85 percent discount and a savings of $6.80. Developed by doinksoft and published by Devolver Digital in 2019, this is a compact Metroidvania with a strict black and white color palette. You play as a cat named Kiki who pilots a heavily armed mechanical suit to save her stranded owner.

The gameplay loop forces you to constantly switch between two modes. Inside the suit, you have rocket launchers and heavy armor. Outside the suit, Kiki dies in one hit but can climb walls and swim through narrow passages. The developer eventually went on to create Gunbrella, but this earlier project distills the exploration of Super Metroid into a tight three-hour package.

How did they make this in 1991?

Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition is on sale for $2.49. This is a 75 percent drop from the original $9.99 price, saving you $7.50. Eric Chahi developed the original game almost entirely by himself for the Amiga in 1991. He used polygons instead of sprites to create smooth rotoscoped animations that looked like nothing else on the market.

The opening sequence alone is a masterclass in wordless storytelling. A lightning strike hits a particle accelerator, transporting a physicist to a hostile alien planet where he immediately has to kick swimming tentacles to survive. It set a standard for cinematic pacing in games long before CD-ROMs made full motion video possible. This anniversary edition updates the backgrounds to higher resolutions but keeps the brutal trial and error gameplay completely intact.

Six courtroom dramas for $26.99

The Ace Attorney Anthology drops from $59.99 to $26.99 with a 55 percent discount. This collection bundles together the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy and the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy. These games started life on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS before Capcom ported them to basically every modern platform.

You get six massive visual novels full of cross-examinations, desk slamming, and convoluted murder mysteries. The package covers the entire mainline series, documenting the franchise's visual evolution from crisp 2D sprite art to fully animated 3D character models. It is hundreds of hours of reading, pressing witnesses for details, and pointing at contradictions in court records.

The Amiga's answer to Sonic

Zool Redimensioned is available for $1.99, an 80 percent drop from its $9.99 retail price. Gremlin Graphics created the original Zool in 1992 as a mascot platformer for the Amiga. It was incredibly fast and famously packed with Chupa Chups lollipop product placement. The Amiga community desperately wanted a game to compete with Sonic the Hedgehog, and this ninja from the Nth dimension was their best contender.

Sumo Digital Academy rebuilt the game from scratch in 2021. This was actually a training project for new game developers entering the industry. The team added widescreen support, tweaked the jumping physics to feel more modern, and included the original Sega Mega Drive version as a bonus mode.
