Simon the Sorcerer Origins adds free quest and a mysterious surprise
A new update for the adventure game prequel adds a secondary quest starting in Chapter 4. It is available now on Steam and coming soon to consoles.
Most "mysterious surprises" in modern patch notes turn out to be minor bug fixes or a slightly different colored hat. ININ Games is promising something a bit more substantial for Simon the Sorcerer Origins.
According to ININ Games, the prequel to the 1993 Amiga classic has received a content patch titled "Mystery of the first Wizard." The update is live now for Steam users. Console players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch will have to wait a bit longer, with the publisher stating only that the console versions are "coming very soon."
The update adds new content to the 2023 prequel.

The patch inserts a new secondary quest directly into the narrative. Players who have reached Chapter 4 can locate a new quest item within the Academy area. The developer suggests this quest will reveal information about the Magic World's past. They also hint that it may contain details regarding the future, which is usually developer speak for sequel hooks or lore expansion.
Alongside the quest, the changelog promises a "huge additional surprise" waiting for adventurous players. In an era where dataminers usually spoil every secret within minutes of an upload, keeping the specifics vague is a bold strategy. The developers have not elaborated on whether this surprise is a cosmetic item, a cameo, or a new gameplay mechanic.
Preserving the Prequel
Simon the Sorcerer Origins launched in 2023 as a modern prequel to Adventure Soft's original series. Seeing post-launch content for a traditional point-and-click adventure is rare enough to be notable. It suggests the game has found enough of an audience to warrant continued development resources.
