SEGA is giving Outbound a physical release this June

SEGA is publishing a physical edition of the cozy survival-crafting game Outbound for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. The Japanese boxed release arrives roughly two months after the game's global digital launch. Square Glade Games initially funded the project through Kickstarter before partnering with publishers to bring the title to consoles and PC.

Living in a van down by the river used to be a cautionary tale. Now it is a whole genre of low-stress gaming. The developers have built an entire survival loop around customizing a mobile base. It looks incredibly relaxing. You do not have to worry about zombies breaking down your windshield. The main threats are simply running out of battery power or needing more materials to build a better couch.

Van life, without the gas prices

Outbound drops the usual grim survival mechanics for a bright, utopian near-future setting. You start with an empty electric camper van. From there, you build a modular home that expands inside and on top of the vehicle.

The building system scales up considerably. Players can construct massive multi-level structures around the environment and integrate their vehicle directly into larger stationary camps.

You are not just tossing down a sleeping bag in the dirt. You are building a rolling fortress of comfort that travels with you across different biomes.

The game relies entirely on sustainable energy mechanics. Players need to source power from the sun, wind, or water to keep their mobile base running. You have to manage power grids to keep your appliances functioning when the weather changes. You can craft workstations, automate your production lines, and grow gardens to cook meals. It also includes four-player online cooperative play. This turns the solo van-life experience into a multiplayer road trip.

Everyone can ride in the same vehicle and contribute to the mobile base design.

The physical distribution details

Square Glade Games is a Netherlands-based indie studio founded by developers Tobi and Marc. They previously released the isometric survival game Above Snakes, which sold well enough to fund their next project. Outbound gained traction quickly and pulled in over a million wishlists on Steam following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Silver Lining Interactive is handling the global digital release across all platforms. SEGA is stepping in specifically to manage the physical distribution in Japan. The game has a CERO A rating. This means the Japanese ratings board approved the game for all ages.

This specific announcement comes from SEGA's Japanese division, but modern consoles are region-free. This makes the physical edition an easy import target for collectors who want the game on a cartridge or disc. Play-Asia, anyone? Players can also pet a dog in the desert.
