PlayStation Plus January Update: Resident Evil, Yakuza, and Ridge Racer

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the January 2026 additions to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, bringing heavy hitters like Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth to the service next week. According to the official PlayStation Blog announcement, Extra and Premium subscribers can access the full lineup starting January 20.

The update includes a mix of recent blockbusters, indie darlings, and a specific arcade racer that defined the console's early years. While the service often leans on older back catalog titles, this month introduces two major AAA releases from established franchises.

The Headliners

Resident Evil Village leads the pack. Released in 2021, this direct sequel to Biohazard continues the unfortunate vacation plans of Ethan Winters. It retains the first-person perspective that revitalized the series while leaning harder into the action-horror pacing of Resident Evil 4. If you missed the internet's collective obsession with Lady Dimitrescu a few years ago, now is your chance to see what the fuss was about.

Joining it is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This massive RPG pairs series veteran Kazuma Kiryu with newcomer Ichiban Kasuga for an adventure that spans Hawaii and Japan. The Yakuza, now Like a Dragon, series has always balanced serious crime drama with the ability to summon crustaceans in battle, and this entry is no exception. It is a significant addition to the service given its relatively recent 2024 release date.

Simulation and Suffering

For those who prefer their stress to come from physics engines rather than zombies, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is also joining the lineup. Unlike its predecessors MudRunner and SnowRunner, which focused on cargo logistics, Expeditions focuses on scientific exploration. The terrain deformation technology remains the star here. You will spend most of your time stuck in mud, which is apparently the point.

Darkest Dungeon II also arrives on January 20. Red Hook Studios took the stress mechanics of their original gothic roguelike and applied them to a road trip structure. It is a punishing game where failure is expected and success usually just means you survived long enough to die later.

Classics and Curiosities

For the retro enthusiasts, the Premium tier is adding the original Ridge Racer. While later entries like Type 4 often get the critical glory, the original 1993 arcade port was the title that proved the PlayStation's 3D capabilities to a skeptical market. It is arcade racing in its purest form.
