Developer S-GAME has released a new teaser trailer for Phantom Blade Zero, confirming a full gameplay and story deep dive is coming in late summer 2026. The footage debuted during today's PlayStation State of Play presentation. The brief clip sets up a busy few months for the studio, with pre-orders also scheduled to open sometime this summer.

Sixty-six days to live

The upcoming action RPG runs on Unreal Engine 5 and blends classic Wuxia storytelling with an aesthetic the developers call "Kungfupunk." You play as Soul. He is an elite assassin framed for murder who has only 66 days left to live. The core loop involves fending off other assassins and unraveling a world-ending conspiracy before your time runs out.

The one-minute special teaser arrived today. Soul protects a baby while fighting off multiple attackers. I have to say the animation work looks incredibly fluid. The parry sequences and weapon clashes move at a blistering pace. It looks like it demands fast reflexes, but the visual feedback seems clear enough to keep the chaos readable.

The Rainblood lineage

If you are wondering where this universe comes from, it is actually part of a long-running franchise. S-GAME is a Beijing-based studio founded in 2011 by CEO Soulframe Liang. They have been building this exact fictional universe for over a decade.

Phantom Blade Zero is a spiritual rebirth of the original Rainblood games. The studio previously released Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage back in 2013 and the mobile-focused Phantom Blade: Executioners in 2023. Those earlier titles established the fast-paced combat and dark fantasy tone. This new entry takes the narrative foundations of the first two Rainblood games and scales them up for modern hardware.

I think it is fascinating to see a studio stick with a single universe for this long. They are taking ideas they first explored in smaller 2D action games and translating them into a massive 3D action RPG.

The game fits into a broader trend of high-fidelity action RPGs emerging from Chinese studios. Following the massive global success of games like Black Myth: Wukong, there is a proven appetite for titles rooted in Chinese mythology and martial arts. S-GAME leans into this with a darker, grittier approach. The Kungfupunk style mixes traditional Wuxia elements with sci-fi and folk horror.

September 9 on PS5

The game officially launches on September 9, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC.

The PS5 version supports the DualSense wireless controller's vibration functions and trigger effects. The summer pre-order window gives S-GAME a few months to build momentum before the September release.
