PCSX2 Patches Security Flaw While Marvel Cosmic Invasion Adds Heroes

The latest update for the popular PlayStation 2 emulator falls into the latter category. As detailed on GitHub, the PCSX2 team has released version 2.5.378. This update avoids flashy new texture filters or UI overhauls to focus entirely on a specific security fix.

Locking Down the PS2

The changelog includes: "Fix an out of bounds read exploit in MG SCMD handlers." To translate, an out-of-bounds read usually means a program is trying to access memory addresses that do not belong to it. This kind of vulnerability can lead to crashes or potentially allow malicious code execution.

The fix targets the MG SCMD handlers, which are part of the emulator's core processing functions. If you are running an older build, updating is likely a good idea.

Dotemu has updated MARVEL Cosmic Invasion with two heavy hitters. Beta Ray Bill and the Silver Surfer have joined the roster, bringing the total count of playable characters to 15.
