Pants-free roguelike Gennady is coming to consoles this year
The hand-drawn platformer is officially making the jump to PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch in Q4 2026, and you can try a demo right now.
Feed 64's hand-drawn roguelike platformer Gennady is officially coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2026. Publisher Sobaka Studio announced the console versions today alongside a new trailer, and a playable demo is already live on the PlayStation Store.
The game was first revealed for PC back in early 2025, but this is the first confirmation of a wide console release. If you missed the initial Steam playtests, Gennady is a 2D action-platformer that looks like a lost Sega Genesis game filtered through a grim, high-contrast comic book. You play as the titular Gennady, a man who wakes up in a hostile alien meat factory wearing nothing but a pair of polka-dot boxers.
Animation and alien slime
The developers at Feed 64 cite the Earthworm Jim era of animation as a primary influence, and the visual direction is the first thing that stands out. The game uses frame-by-frame 2D animation set against a black-and-white pseudo-noir backdrop. That monochrome world gets constantly interrupted by bright green alien slime, pink laser beams, and whatever fluids the local wildlife happens to leak when punched.
Instead of just jumping on heads, Gennady fights his way through procedurally generated biomes using his fists, scavenged alien weapons, and his own body. The combat system includes a dash mechanic that lets you turn into a living projectile to smash through enemies and acidic barriers. String enough kills together and you trigger Rage Mode, which grants temporary invulnerability and extra speed. The entire combat loop is built around maintaining momentum and aggression.
The levels themselves are randomized using a pool of pre-designed rooms, meaning the layout changes every time you die. Feed 64 has built at least five distinct areas, each with its own specific hazards. Players will have to avoid third-degree burns in an industrial cafeteria or deal with sticky resin traps in an alien forest environment.
Cheating death
Since it is a roguelike, death sends you back to the start of the meat factory. However, the game has a mechanic called the "Alley of the Dead" that lets you cheat the permadeath system slightly. If you have enough ammo left before you die, you can shoot your collected artifacts to carry them over into your next run. It is a strange economy that forces you to decide between using your resources to survive the current room or saving them to give your next attempt a head start.
You also collect a living currency during runs to buy upgrades and tweak your character build. These upgrades are necessary to deal with the giant, multi-eyed boss monsters waiting at the end of each biome.
Sobaka Studio is handling the console publishing duties. They are the team behind the upcoming action game Kiborg, and this partnership makes sense given both games lean heavily into fast-paced, violent brawling. In a press release, Sobaka Studio head Dmitry Kachkov joked that Gennady and Kiborg's protagonist Morgan would either get along or leave each other in a bloody pulp.
The console release is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. If you want to see how the brawling feels in practice, the demo is available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Just do not expect anyone to offer you a pair of pants.
