Our favorite Final Fantasy deals
Humble Bundle is some great deals on Final Fantasy PC ports, including classic RPGs and modern action spin-offs.
Humble Bundle is currently has many Final Fantasy PC ports discounted by 60 percent. Now is a great time to catch up on these games. I put together a list of my favorites from the current batch of discounts.
Two PlayStation 1 RPGs for under $5 each

Final Fantasy VII is available for $4.79, a 60 percent discount from its usual $11.99. You play as Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins an eco-terrorist group called Avalanche to stop the Shinra megacorporation from draining the planet's life energy. The game uses the Active Time Battle system and lets you customize character abilities using equippable orbs called Materia. It originally launched in 1997 and completely shifted the commercial expectations for Japanese RPGs in the West. This specific PC port includes built-in boosters that let you speed up the gameplay or turn off random encounters entirely.

Final Fantasy VIII is also discounted by 60 percent, dropping to $4.79 from its standard $11.99 price tag. This entry follows Squall Leonhart and a group of teenage mercenaries as they get pulled into a conflict with a time-manipulating sorceress. The combat relies on the Junction system, where you draw magic spells from enemies and equip them directly to your character stats. It is a divisive mechanic that completely replaces traditional armor and accessories. I think it makes for a highly breakable and entertaining game once you understand how to exploit the card minigame to get high-level magic early.
A 100-hour pilgrimage for $12

The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is on sale for $11.99, which is a 60 percent discount off the $29.99 MSRP. Final Fantasy X tells the story of Tidus, a sports star transported to the world of Spira, where he joins a summoner named Yuna on a journey to defeat a massive monster known as Sin. The combat drops the active timers for a purely turn-based system. You can swap party members in and out of battle freely to handle specific enemy types. You level up through the Sphere Grid, a massive board of stat nodes that gives you granular control over character growth.
The package also includes Final Fantasy X-2. This direct sequel shifts to a much lighter tone and uses a fast-paced job system where characters change classes mid-battle using different outfits. Both games originally released on the PlayStation 2 in the early 2000s, and this remaster cleans up the textures and adds a newly arranged soundtrack.
Team Ninja's action RPG is $24

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Digital Deluxe Edition is down to $23.99 from its original $59.99 price, another 60 percent cut. Developed by the team behind Nioh, this action RPG is an alternate prequel to the very first Final Fantasy game from 1987. You control Jack Garland on his single-minded, highly aggressive quest to kill Chaos. The combat is fast and punishing. You have to switch between multiple job classes on the fly to exploit enemy weaknesses and break their posture. The Deluxe Edition includes the season pass, which adds three expansion missions to the base game and introduces new weapon types like the staff and gun.

Stacking monsters in Grymoire
World of Final Fantasy, the base game, is available for $9.99, a 60 percent drop from its $24.99 MSRP. This version is distinct from the enhanced 'Maxima' edition, which was released for PC in 2018 and adds new characters and story arcs. You play as siblings Reynn and Lann as they explore the world of Grymoire to recover their lost memories. The gameplay is essentially a monster-catching RPG. You capture familiar monsters from the franchise and literally stack them on top of your characters' heads to combine their stats and abilities in turn-based battles. It is a lighthearted detour that pulls in characters and locations from across the entire series history. It is a much more relaxed experience than the mainline games, and the stacking mechanic adds a surprising amount of depth to the combat.
