Nintendo just announced an Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2
The June 2026 Nintendo Direct revealed a full 3D remake of the N64 classic, plus new entries for Nintendo Sports and Xenoblade.
Nintendo has officially announced a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. The reveal closed out a packed June 2026 Nintendo Direct that also introduced Nintendo Sports, Xenoblade Genesis, and several other major titles.
I am incredibly excited for the Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo Sports, and Xenoblade Genesis. The broadcast covered a lot of ground, and there is plenty more to break down.

A 2026 return to Hyrule
The June 2026 Nintendo Direct ended with a cinematic look at Kokiri Forest. Link is shown sleeping in his bed before the camera cuts to a close-up of his hand. The Triforce of Courage glows brightly on his skin. The game is a ground-up remake with high-fidelity 3D graphics built for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. It has a release window of 2026.

The original 1998 Nintendo 64 release defined 3D action games with its Z-targeting combat and open-world design. Nintendo previously updated the title in 2011 with Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. That version smoothed out the framerate and updated the character models. This new project is a complete visual overhaul on par with modern console releases.
Nintendo Sports is coming to the new console. Nintendo has been chasing the massive success of the original Wii Sports for almost two decades. Nintendo Switch Sports brought back the motion-control formula in 2022. This new iteration drops the console name from the title entirely. Nintendo showed off tennis, bowling, and a new rock climbing mode.
Monolith Soft goes back to the start
Role-playing fans are getting Xenoblade Genesis. Developer Monolith Soft wrapped up the main trilogy with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and its Future Redeemed expansion. The title implies a prequel or origin story for the universe. The studio has a habit of pushing Nintendo hardware to its absolute limits. Seeing what they can do with the Switch 2 is going to be interesting.
Filling out the calendar
The presentation did not stop with those three games. Nintendo announced that GameCube titles are finally joining the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack. Players have been asking for GameCube support since the service launched. The initial lineup includes Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and F-Zero GX. The company also confirmed that the original GameCube controller adapter will work with the Switch 2.
A new Rhythm Heaven game is also in development. The rhythm-action series has been dormant since the Nintendo 3DS era. The game has the usual mix of bizarre timing minigames and catchy music.
Nintendo also revealed Star Fox Armada. The space shooter franchise has struggled to find its footing since the Nintendo 64 days. This new entry focuses heavily on four-player cooperative missions. Players can pilot Arwings or jump into the Landmaster tank to complete ground objectives.
The broadcast gave us a clear look at the first year of the Switch 2 lifecycle. Nintendo is leaning heavily on established franchises to sell the new hardware.
