Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound and two more hit PlayStation Plus today

Sony just pushed the final wave of September's PlayStation Plus Game Catalog updates live. As we noted in our look at 8 highlights from September's PlayStation Plus catalog, this end-of-month drop leans heavily on recent indie and mid-tier releases. According to Playstation's official account, the games are available to download right now for Extra and Premium subscribers.

PlayStation has settled into a comfortable rhythm of staggering its catalog updates. Instead of dumping everything on the first Tuesday of the month, they spread the releases out. Earlier in September, we saw heavy hitters like WWE 2K26 and Slitterhead hit the service. This final trio focuses on specific niches: retro action, cozy social simulation, and tactical stealth. Here is what you can play today.

A 2D return for Ninja Gaiden

The Game Kitchen released this side-scrolling spin-off in July 2025. It strips away the 3D arenas of the modern entries and goes back to the NES era. You play as Kenji Mozu alongside kunoichi Kumori in a story running parallel to Ryu Hayabusa's trip to America. The studio behind Blasphemous handled the development, and it shows in the pixel art and the strict combat timing. Dotemu published the title under license from Koei Tecmo.

The Ninja Gaiden franchise has a strange history. It started as an arcade beat 'em up in 1988 before becoming a notoriously difficult platformer on the NES. Tomonobu Itagaki and Team Ninja successfully rebooted it as a 3D character action game on the original Xbox in 2004. Ragebound ignores the 3D era entirely. It focuses on precise jumps, screen-clearing ninpo magic, and enemies that knock you backward into bottomless pits. I want to see whether the platforming feels as punishing as the 8-bit originals.

Dungeon crawling in the Austrian Alps

Microbird Games launched this action-RPG last summer on PC and Xbox Series X|S. It mixes Zelda-style puzzle dungeons with a social simulator. You spend your days exploring magical tourist traps in the Alps, and your evenings hanging out with locals to upgrade your stats. The cel-shaded art style looks great in motion. It's a much slower pace than the rest of this month's additions, giving you plenty of time to figure out the town's schedule.

The premise is funnier than it has any right to be. Magic suddenly appears in a quiet Austrian village, and the local government immediately turns it into a tourist destination. You play as a burned-out law student taking a vacation to clear out monster dens. The combat is straightforward hack-and-slash action, but the real draw is the relationship system. It works well. Upgrading your gear requires you to grab coffee with the local blacksmith or chat with other tourists at the bar.

More X-ray kills in occupied France

Rebellion Developments put this out early last year. It runs parallel to the story of Sniper Elite 5, swapping Karl Fairburne for Special Operations Executive agent Harry Hawker. The core mechanics are identical to the mainline games. You still sneak through massive sandbox levels, tag enemies with binoculars, and watch slow-motion bullets shatter femurs. If you've played any Sniper Elite game since 2014, you know exactly how this handles.

Rebellion found a formula that works and they refuse to deviate from it. Resistance doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. It offers new maps and a new protagonist, but the moment-to-moment gameplay is pure comfort food for stealth fans. The levels are huge, open-ended puzzles with multiple infiltration routes. You can spend an hour carefully rigging traps and masking your rifle shots with the sound of passing airplanes, or you can just pull out a submachine gun and alert the entire map. The stealth approach is usually more rewarding.
