Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Gundam Blitz Order, a free-to-play idle simulation game coming to iOS and Android. Ahead of the full launch, the publisher is recruiting 2,500 players for a closed network test in November, according to the official announcement.

Gundam games have covered nearly every genre since Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise launched the original anime in April 1979, from 1980s microcomputer strategy games to console simulators like Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2. This latest entry shifts the 47-year-old mecha franchise into automated squad management, so your giant robots of war can harvest upgrade materials while your phone sits in your pocket.

The core loop runs on auto-battles that gather upgrade materials without manual input. Instead of forcing you to level every new unit from scratch, those materials feed into a shared squad progression system that levels up all of your units at the same time. When you pull a new mobile suit, mobile armor, or battleship from across the franchise's various timelines, you can drop it straight into active duty without spending a week farming XP tickets first.

That shared leveling setup removes one of the worst friction points in mobile squad builders, though I'm curious how much actual strategy survives when the battles play themselves. The tactical layer happens before and during deployment: you arrange formations and placements based on unit traits, then trigger unit-specific EX Skills to swing fights. Planned modes include boss battles, battleship escort missions, and player-versus-player competition.

Bandai Namco hasn't shared a final release window yet, but you won't have to wait long to try an early build if you live in a supported region. Sign-ups for the closed network test are open now through October 26, 2026, at 11:59 JST. The test itself runs from November 18 at 14:00 JST to November 24 at 13:59 JST across both iOS and Android, with spots capped at 2,500 testers.

The company's mobile catalog has seen plenty of turnover over the years. Custom gunpla action game Gundam Breaker Mobile shut down in June 2023 after a four-year run, while tactical crossover entries like SD Gundam G Generation have kept turn-based grid fans busy on consoles and phones. An idle game is a much lighter commitment than piloting a suit manually or agonizing over grid movement, and I want to see whether the battleship escort missions require real attention or just bigger squad numbers.
