Moebius-inspired action game CALX is coming to consoles this year

CALX, a 3D action-adventure game from Italian developer True Colors, is coming to Xbox Series X|S later in 2026. The latest trailer comes via the official Xbox channel, but the release is entirely multiplatform. The game will hit PC first on June 4, followed by Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch versions later in the year.

The game drops players onto Syro, a vibrant alien planet suffering from a growing corruption known as the WARP. You play as the Seeker. Your job is to explore the ruins of a lost civilization called the Quoths. The visual direction leans heavily into classic European sci-fi comics. It specifically channels the clean lines and surreal environments of Jean Giraud, better known as Moebius.

Journey, but with a grappling hook

Game and narrative designer Gabriele Ferreccio has cited Metroid and Hyper Light Drifter as primary influences. He aimed for a specific mix of isolation and discovery. Based on the footage, the game also gives off strong Journey and Nier Automata vibes. It looks like a game that wants you to feel very small in a very large, empty place.

Movement is the core mechanic here. The Seeker can double jump, air dash, levitate, and swing across canyons using a grappling hook. These mobility tools are not just for getting around. True Colors built the combat system around constant repositioning. The team treats enemy encounters more like movement puzzles than traditional brawls.

The trailer shows a mix of melee strikes and ranged attacks using a companion drone called AFX. Fights range from standard mob encounters to massive boss battles. One clip shows a fight against a giant mechanical eye that fills the screen with purple projectiles. The encounter looks like a blend of 3D platforming and bullet-hell evasion. A perfect dodge mechanic is also in place to reward precise timing.

Electronic atmosphere

True Colors (publishing through Dear Villagers) originally announced the project under the name XTAL before rebranding it to CALX. The studio is pushing an interconnected world design where gaining new abilities lets you access hidden areas in older zones. The developers estimate a 10 to 15 hour runtime for a standard playthrough.

The pacing is designed to fluctuate between quiet exploration and sudden action sequences. To match this rhythm, composer Matteo Ferrante created an IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) soundtrack heavily inspired by artists like Aphex Twin. The music dynamically shifts between biomes and adapts to your current combat state.

If you want to try the movement mechanics before the summer release, a playable demo is currently available on Steam. The PC version launches on June 4 via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The console ports do not have a firm date yet, but it is nice to see a smaller studio committing to a Switch release alongside the heavier current-generation hardware.
