Mega Man and Proto Man just joined Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

SEGA has released the Mega Man Pack DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The update adds the Blue Bomber and Proto Man to the kart racer's roster today.

The $5.99 pack includes both Capcom characters alongside the Rush Roadstar vehicle. Players also get a new track based on Dr. Wily's Castle. The DLC bundles three music tracks from the Capcom franchise. These include the Wily Castle theme, the character select music, and the result screen audio. Every character also gets six specific emotes to use during races.

Players who already own the $29.99 Season Pass or the Digital Deluxe Edition get the pack automatically. You do not need to buy the DLC to keep playing multiplayer. SEGA confirmed that base game owners can still race against Mega Man players online. Free players can also compete on the Wily Castle course when it appears in the regular online rotation.

Help from the Initial D arcade team

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched in September 2025. Sonic Team developed the game with support from the crew behind SEGA's Initial D arcade racing series. They dropped the cooperative team mechanics of 2019's Team Sonic Racing in favor of a dimensional warping gimmick.

The core mechanic revolves around Travel Rings. Players drive through these massive portals to teleport to entirely different tracks in the middle of a race. A race might start in Green Hill Zone, warp into a Super Monkey Ball stage for the second lap, and finish somewhere completely different. The track layouts and hazards change depending on which dimension you end up in.

This structure makes it very easy for SEGA to slot in unrelated franchises. The post-launch roadmap relies heavily on third-party properties rather than digging deeper into SEGA's own catalog. Mega Man is the fourth major drop for the Season Pass. He joins a bizarre guest roster that already includes characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Minecraft, and Pac-Man. Two more unnamed content packs are scheduled for later this year.

Patch 1.3.1 and Ring Frenzy

The Mega Man DLC arrives right after a major title update. Last week, SEGA pushed version 1.3.1 to all platforms. That patch added eight new Ring-related gadgets to the item pool. It also introduced a Bonus Ring Frenzy mode.

A history of comic crossovers

I always find it interesting when Sonic and Mega Man share a screen. The two blue mascots have a surprisingly deep history together outside of video games. Archie Comics ran massive crossover events between the two franchises in 2013 and 2015. Those comic storylines mashed up Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily into a single evil alliance. Now we just have them throwing kart racing items at each other.

I had to double-check the platform list for this release because the game is available on almost everything. CrossWorlds is currently playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the original Nintendo Switch.

SEGA also released the physical edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 today. The digital version for Nintendo's new hardware came out last December. The base game starts at $69.99 on modern consoles and PC. The older Switch version retails for $59.99.
