Limited Run Games has shared a production update for the physical Special Edition of The Stone of Madness, revealing the final slipcover design for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch release. The update arrived in the company's weekly "This Just In" blog post for August 27, 2026.

Pre-orders for the physical edition closed back on February 15, 2026. The Stone of Madness originally launched digitally in January 2025. Developed by The Game Kitchen, the studio best known for the Blasphemous series, the game is a real-time tactical stealth adventure set in an 18th-century Spanish monastery. You coordinate a group of five inmates trying to escape a Jesuit madhouse. The visuals pull heavily from the work of Spanish painter Francisco Goya.

The isometric perspective and tactical mechanics require careful planning. Each of the five characters has specific phobias and conditions that alter how they interact with the environment. If a character's stress level gets too high, they might develop new negative traits, making the escape harder. The Game Kitchen shifted gears significantly from the fast-paced action platforming of Blasphemous to make this slower, methodical puzzle-box of a game. The Goya-inspired art style looks fantastic in print, and it is nice to see the studio's departure from their usual formula get a proper physical treatment.

The new photos show the custom slipcover designed for the Special Edition. The packaging features the game's detailed hand-drawn art style. The Limited Run team noted that the slipcover helps "shroud its mind-shattering nature from hapless viewers" while looking classy on a bookshelf. Physical production cycles for boutique publishers often take several months after pre-orders close, so seeing final printed materials is a good sign that fulfillment is getting closer.

Twin-stick survival and a 20-year-old Game Boy sequel

The August 27 update also highlighted a few other items clearing warehouse quality assurance. The Last Camp, a post-apocalyptic twin-stick shooter developed by PARADOW, is moving through the pipeline. NiuGamer published the digital version of The Last Camp across modern platforms before Limited Run picked up the physical rights. The game blends twin-stick shooting with survival and crafting mechanics, forcing players to manage resource shortages while fending off waves of enemies. Its physical PlayStation 5 release is cataloged as Limited Run #196.

WayForward fans also got a look at the final Risky Boots plush. The merchandise tie-in supports the Shantae franchise, arriving on the heels of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution. That project has its own unusual history. Originally developed in the early 2000s for the Game Boy Advance, the sequel was shelved for two decades before WayForward and Limited Run Games resurrected it. They finished development on original hardware kits and released it on physical Game Boy Advance cartridges in April 2025, followed by modern console ports in August 2025.

The blog post mentioned it was a light week for updates, jokingly warning that a flood of elaborate deluxe editions is probably on the way soon. For now, buyers waiting on The Stone of Madness or The Last Camp can at least see the final printed materials.
