Guiding statues to safety

Sabnack is an action puzzle game built around a strict escort mechanic. You play as Alf, a hero equipped with a red cloak that can revive petrified warriors. The goal is to guide these revived allies across the map to a magic circle.

There's a catch. If your followers get caught on obstacles and drift too far away from Alf, they instantly turn back into stone statues. You have to manage their pathfinding manually, adjusting your own position to keep the group together. I'm curious how frustrating the companion AI gets in the later stages, especially since early 90s pathfinding is notoriously unforgiving when dealing with complex terrain.

The PC-9801 library grows

Project EGG has been steadily moving its PC-9801 and MSX archives over to the Switch. Sabnack originally launched in 1991, and this release preserves the original presentation, right down to the chiptune audio and the distinct color palette of early Japanese computing.

The game will be available on the Nintendo eShop for its September 10 launch. It doesn't include a scene select feature, and USB keyboard support is limited to specific Japanese layouts.
