Kaiyodo announces Adol Christin Revoltech figure based on Ys I & II Chronicles
The legendary red-headed swordsman is joining the Revoltech line with a design based on the classic Ys I & II Chronicles compilation.
Figure manufacturer Kaiyodo has officially announced a new Revoltech action figure of Adol Christin based on his appearance in Ys I & II Chronicles. According to a post on the Nihon Falcom blog, this release marks a new collaboration bringing Falcom characters to the highly articulated Revoltech line.
The announcement was accompanied by a teaser image showing the prototype in full color. Kaiyodo stated that pre-orders are expected to open soon.
Classic Armor, Modern Joints
The figure depicts Adol in his most recognizable early-era equipment: the silver armor and shield set seen in the Chronicles artwork. This specific version of the character comes from the 2009 compilation of the first two games, which refreshed the visuals of the 1987 and 1988 originals for the PlayStation Portable and PC.
For collectors, the choice of the Revoltech format is significant. Kaiyodo's line is famous for its "Revolver Joint" system, a ratcheted articulation mechanism that allows for extreme, dynamic posing. This seems particularly fitting for Adol, a character whose primary method of communication involves violent sword gestures and nodding stoically.
Preserving the Bump System
Seeing high-quality merchandise for the classic iterations of Ys is a welcome sight. While Adol has appeared in nearly every console generation since the PC-8801, his design has shifted drastically over the decades. Modern entries like Ys IX: Monstrum Nox favor more elaborate anime-styled costumes, so returning to the simple, functional plate mail of the 8-bit era hits a specific nostalgic note.
The Ys I & II duology is best known for its "bump combat" system, where players attack enemies simply by ramming into them off-center. It sounds primitive on paper, but in practice, it is a fast-paced rhythm of destruction that few action RPGs have managed to replicate. Hopefully, the figure possesses better balance than Adol usually displays when standing near the edge of a boat.
Falcom has promised more details regarding accessories and release timing in a future update.
