Street Fighter 6 is getting Ingrid and a new avatar mode next week
Capcom is wrapping up Year 3 of Street Fighter 6 on May 28 with the release of Ingrid, a new avatar battle mode, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Capcom is releasing the celestial fighter Ingrid and a new avatar battle mode for Street Fighter 6 on May 28. This update officially concludes the game's Year 3 content roadmap. According to Capcom, the release will be available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
The inclusion of the Nintendo Switch 2 in that platform list is a notable detail. The original Nintendo Switch missed out on Street Fighter 6 entirely when the game launched in 2023 due to hardware limitations. Bringing the full game and its Year 3 updates to Nintendo's new hardware finally gives portable players access to the current generation of fighting games.
A playable demo of Ingrid was available at EVO Japan 2026 at the beginning of May. Her modernized moveset translates surprisingly well to the current game engine. The developers managed to keep her floaty, magical playstyle intact while adapting her tools to fit the modern Drive System mechanics. Her animations look fluid, and her energy-based attacks fill the screen with bright visual effects that stand out against the more grounded martial arts of the core cast.

A 20-year wait between matches
If you are wondering who Ingrid is, you have to dig deep into Capcom's back catalog. She made her debut in the 2004 crossover title Capcom Fighting Evolution. That game mashed up rosters from Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Red Earth. Ingrid stood out as the sole original character created for the project. She later showed up as a portable exclusive in the 2006 PlayStation Portable port Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX.
Since then, she has mostly existed as background lore and a premium costume option in Street Fighter V. In the series canon, she is a "Code Holder" with immense celestial powers. Her updated moveset relies heavily on energy rings, teleportation, and floating projectiles. She also introduces herself as a "mysterious beautiful girl" in the Japanese audio track.
Mixing moves in avatar battles
The May 28 update also brings a new avatar battle mode to the game. Street Fighter 6 has leaned heavily into custom player avatars since it launched. The game currently uses them for the World Tour single-player story mode and as physical representations of players in the online Battle Hub lobbies.
This new mode gives players another way to take their custom fighters into matches against each other. The avatar system allows players to mix and match special moves learned from the main roster. Adding Ingrid's magical arts to that pool of available moves will likely result in some bizarre custom combinations.
Ingrid is the final character in the Year 3 Character Pass. Her release caps off the current development cycle and brings the roster to a close for the season.
