Guilty Gear Strive is getting a guest character this winter
Arc System Works confirmed at Anime Expo that Season Pass 5 will introduce a collaboration fighter to the roster in Winter 2026.
Arc System Works announced today (July 5, 2026) that a new guest character will be joining the roster of the fighting game "GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-" ( PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Xbox One / ARCADE / Nintendo Switch ) in Season Pass 5. The character will be joining in Winter 2026 . Producer Ken Miyauchi confirmed the news during the company's panel at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles.

Arc System Works America teased the announcement online, asking fans who they think the character will be.
Guest characters are a massive driver for modern fighting games. Tekken 7 brought in everyone from Negan to Noctis, and Mortal Kombat has basically turned into a 1980s action movie simulator. Guilty Gear has historically kept its roster strictly in-house. Bringing an outside property into the heavy metal, post-apocalyptic world of Strive is a major shift for the franchise.
Handling other people's characters
Arc System Works is highly experienced at adapting external properties into 2D fighting games. The Yokohama-based studio built its modern reputation on licensed titles like Dragon Ball FighterZ, Persona 4 Arena, and Granblue Fantasy Versus. They know how to translate established characters into their signature cel-shaded visual style.
Doing it inside their own flagship universe is a different challenge. The original Guilty Gear launched in 1998 on the PlayStation. Over the last 28 years, the series has developed a very specific visual language. Any guest character will need to fit alongside a cast of time-traveling knights, yo-yo wielding bounty hunters, and whatever Faust is supposed to be.
Four million players
Strive originally launched in June 2021. It was designed to be more approachable for newcomers while keeping the technical depth the series is known for. The strategy worked. The game crossed four million total players last month, making it one of the most successful titles in the studio's history. The recent Nintendo Switch port in January 2025 helped push those player numbers higher.
Strive also set a new standard for online play when it launched. It popularized the use of rollback netcode among Japanese fighting game developers. Before 2021, many major fighting games still relied on delay-based netcode, which made online matches feel sluggish.
According to the company, Miyauchi took over as producer in 2022 and has steered the game through multiple seasons of post-launch support. Fighting games rely heavily on continuous updates to maintain their player base. A high-profile guest character is exactly the kind of announcement that brings lapsed players back to see what changed.
The community will likely spend that time analyzing every frame of the announcement panel for clues about who is crossing over.
