Guilty Gear -Strive- just kicked off its Robo-Ky themed Blazing Pass
Arc System Works is running the Ennui Protocol event through September, adding new cosmetics and a premium reward track.
The Ennui Protocol event is currently running in Guilty Gear -Strive-. It brings a new wave of cosmetics to the Blazing Pass system. Arc System Works launched the event, and it will remain active through September.
According to Arc System Works, the standard free reward track includes new accessories, battle UI skins, wanted posters, digital figure items, badges, and short stories.
Premium upgrades cost $3.99
The event is officially titled Blazing Pass Duel 2: Ennui Protocol. It is themed heavily around Robo-Ky. Players earn experience points by completing in-game challenges to unlock the standard rewards.
There is also a premium upgrade available. The Blazing Pass Plus for Duel 2: Ennui Protocol costs $3.99 and unlocks exclusive high-tier cosmetics. These include Ky Kiske's Thunderseal weapon skin and Queen Dizzy's Countryside Style outfit. The digital figure items included in both tracks feed into the game's diorama mode. This mode lets players pose characters with new props and backgrounds.
The short stories included in the free track give lore enthusiasts a reason to log in and complete challenges. Guilty Gear has a notoriously convoluted narrative involving magic, genetic engineering, and alternate timelines. Hiding small narrative updates behind gameplay challenges is a clever way to reward players who care about the story but might not play competitively online.
Keeping a five-year-old fighter alive
Guilty Gear -Strive- originally launched in June 2021. The game helped popularize rollback netcode in modern fighting games and set a high bar for 3D cell-shaded graphics that mimic 2D anime. Since then, the player base has grown to over 4 million players worldwide.
The introduction of the Blazing Pass system earlier this year was a clear pivot toward a modern live-service model. The first pass arrived in May 2026 alongside the massive Version 2.00 update. The battle pass model is still relatively new to the fighting game genre, which traditionally relied on standalone character DLC or full-priced expansion packs. By pairing cosmetic unlocks with highly anticipated legacy characters like Robo-Ky, the studio keeps the competitive community engaged on a weekly basis.
The Guilty Gear franchise debuted on the original PlayStation in 1998. Creator Daisuke Ishiwatari built the series around fast-paced mechanics, complex inputs, and heavy metal soundtracks. Over nearly three decades, Arc System Works evolved the property from traditional sprite-based 2D fighting to its current hybrid visual style. Strive is the most successful entry to date.
Available on six platforms
The game originally launched only on PlayStation consoles and PC. The Xbox ports arrived later, and the Nintendo Switch version is an even more recent addition.
The game is now fully playable across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Maintaining feature parity and cross-play across six platforms five years after launch is a massive undertaking. It makes sense that Arc System Works needs a steady revenue stream like a battle pass to fund ongoing development between major tournament cycles like the Arc World Tour.
