Guilty Gear Strive is getting Robo-Ky next week
Arc System Works is bringing the mechanical menace back to the roster on July 2 as the second character in Season 5.
Arc System Works is adding Robo-Ky to the Guilty Gear Strive roster on July 2. He is the second character in the game's fifth season pass. The mechanical duplicate joins the lineup just weeks after Jam Kuradoberi kicked off the current wave of downloadable content.
The base game is currently on sale for $19.99 on the PlayStation Store until the morning of July 2 to coincide with the character drop. Guilty Gear Strive is also available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and the DLC will launch simultaneously across all platforms.
Robo-Ky first appeared as a simple palette swap of Ky Kiske in Guilty Gear X. He evolved into a fully distinct fighter with his own bizarre mechanics in Guilty Gear XX. He has always functioned as a comedic foil to the very serious human he was built to mimic. His return in Strive leans entirely into that absurdity.

He brought a wheelchair to a sword fight
His updated design maintains the blue uniform and metallic joints of his classic look. The actual combat animations are entirely new. At one point, his head completely detaches from his neck. The headless body remains standing while the head sprouts rotor blades and flies around the stage like a helicopter.
Another attack involves him deploying six massive mechanical arms at once for a barrage of punches. He also rides around in a motorized wheelchair decorated with a unicorn head.
The character retains his arrogant personality. He loudly declares "I picked the right body to rent" before matches. His dialogue is full of strange robotic justifications for his behavior. He claims his methods involve "forcing this hurting people to work nearly as hard as an entire human being."

Fans of the older games remember his unusual heat gauge mechanic from the XX series. Instead of a standard tension meter, he had to manage his internal temperature to avoid overheating. Arc System Works stripped away and reinvented many older mechanics for Strive, so his resource management will likely look very different in this iteration.
The rest of season 5
The fifth season pass includes four characters in total. With Jam and Robo-Ky out of the way by early July, Arc System Works has two slots left to fill. The developer plans to release the third character in the winter of 2026. The final fighter of the pass will follow in the spring of 2027.
The pass also adds a new stage called Cradled by the Four Beasts. Players who buy the full pass get access to additional character colors and user interface skins.
Fighting games rarely maintain active development into their fifth year. Guilty Gear Strive originally launched in June 2021. Pushing the final character of this pass into 2027 means the game will have nearly six years of continuous roster updates. That puts it in the same longevity bracket as Street Fighter V or Tekken 7. The developer is perfectly content to keep bolting new parts onto this engine rather than building a sequel.
