Gothic 1 Remake just got a June 2026 release date

Alkimia Interactive's ground-up rebuild of the 2001 action RPG will launch next summer, and console pre-orders include a copy of the original game.

Gothic 1 Remake just got a June 2026 release date

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have announced that the Gothic 1 Remake will launch on June 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S [1, 2, 3]. The publisher opened digital pre-orders today alongside a new promotional video [7, 8].

The original Gothic launched in 2001 as a famously ambitious PC-only role-playing game [3, 9]. Piranha Bytes created a dark fantasy world where non-player characters had actual daily routines and would absolutely murder a level-one player for wandering into the wrong forest [3, 10]. It was an unforgiving experience with a control scheme that was somewhere between "incomplete" and "optimistic."

A slightly prettier prison

Alkimia Interactive is rebuilding the entire game in Unreal Engine 5 [2, 3]. The combat and magic systems are completely overhauled [8]. A close-up shot of the protagonist engaging in melee combat with a large Orc in a dungeon shows the updated character models and animations.

The environmental fidelity is a massive upgrade from the 2001 original [8, 9]. The player character walks through a dense, snowy forest at night while holding a torch. Later, an overhead view looks down into the sprawling mining colony camp. This provides a sense of scale for the world and reimagines the layout of the old prison.

A group of mages performs a ritual with glowing purple magical energy. This demonstrates the new visual effects for magic and hints at the creation of the magical barrier that traps everyone inside the valley.

The math doesn't math

The pricing structure is split by platform [4, 8]. The PC version costs $49.99 and includes a digital soundtrack by returning composer Kai Rosenkranz [5, 8]. Console players will pay $59.99 [8]. That ten-dollar premium on PlayStation and Xbox comes with a copy of Gothic Classic (the original 2001 game) as a free bonus [7, 8].

The remake project has been in the works for a long time. THQ Nordic released a playable teaser back in 2019 just to gauge fan interest [1, 2]. The positive reception led to the creation of a brand new studio in Barcelona specifically to build this game [1, 11]. Seven years after that initial test, the barrier is finally opening back up.
