Microsoft has outlined the next batch of games coming to Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass for the week of July 13 to 17. The upcoming lineup includes Fogpiercer, Ascend to ZERO, and The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. According to Xbox Wire, these titles will roll out across the platform ecosystem over the next few days.

July is traditionally a quiet month for major publisher releases. This gives independent developers a clearer runway to launch their games without competing against massive marketing budgets. Microsoft uses these weekly roundups to highlight smaller titles hitting the digital storefront alongside broader Game Pass additions.

Many of these releases come through the ID@Xbox program. Microsoft launched that initiative in 2013 to provide development kits and publishing support to smaller studios. Microsoft frequently updates the Xbox dashboard to surface these newer titles. The current user interface dedicates specific rows to newly released games and recent Game Pass additions. This layout helps smaller games avoid getting buried under live-service updates for massive multiplayer titles.

Lovecraft gets another adaptation

The week's lineup includes The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Lovecraftian horror remains a reliable well for independent developers to draw from. The public domain status of the Cthulhu mythos means studios can use the established lore without paying licensing fees.

Horror games often find a comfortable audience on Game Pass. The subscription model lowers the barrier to entry for players who might avoid buying a horror title outright. The Mound joins a crowded genre, but the built-in Xbox ecosystem provides immediate visibility.

Trains and vertical climbs

Fogpiercer is also on the schedule. The title points toward a survival or traversal focus, likely leaning into the ongoing trend of vehicle-based survival games. Games like Pacific Drive and Choo-Choo Charles recently proved that players enjoy managing a mobile base of operations through hostile environments.

Ascend to ZERO rounds out the highlighted releases. Action and platforming games with vertical progression mechanics have seen a resurgence lately. Titles like Jusant and Only Up turned climbing into a core gameplay loop rather than just a background traversal mechanic.

Buy it once

Several games in these weekly drops support the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Microsoft launched this initiative in 2016 to bridge the gap between console and PC players. When a game has the Play Anywhere tag, buying the digital version on Xbox automatically unlocks the Windows PC version.

The program also syncs save data and achievements across both platforms. You can start a game on your television, close it, and pick up exactly where you left off on a desktop computer. The integration extends to the Xbox PC app. Players can browse the same store interface on Windows 11 and manage their installations remotely.

This cross-buy approach is a major selling point for the Xbox ecosystem. Sony and Nintendo still require separate purchases for different hardware formats in most cases.

Cloud gaming adds another layer to this ecosystem. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can stream many of these weekly releases directly to their phones or web browsers without installing them. The new batch of games will populate the Xbox store starting Monday.
