Publisher Nacon has set a November 5 release date for Edge of Memories, opening pre-orders for the action JRPG across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The announcement arrives alongside a new release date trailer that features the game's real-time combat and Japanese voice cast.

The project was originally announced in February 2025. It is a narrative extension to 2021's Edge of Eternity, a crowdfunded tactical RPG that built a dedicated following as a modern tribute to PlayStation-era Final Fantasy titles. Edge of Eternity established the world of Heryon and introduced the Corrosion, a monstrous plague mutating flora, fauna, and people.

Edge of Memories picks up that thread but drops the hex-grid battles of its predecessor entirely. Players take control of Eline, an itinerant Soul Whisperer traveling across the continent of Avaris. She is joined by allies like Ysoris and Kanta, a prince-shaman from a lost tribe, as they attempt to stop the apocalypse. The trailer dialogue establishes that Eline is fighting the Corrosion within her own body as well as in the world around her. The footage shows Eline utilizing rapid sword strikes and area-of-effect magic against corrupted wildlife, a stark departure from the turn-based roots of the franchise. I am curious how the shift to real-time action feels after the deliberate, methodical pacing of the first game.

A final release for Midgar Studio

The November launch carries a somber undertone. Midgar Studio, the Montpellier-based developer founded in 2008 by Jérémy Zeler-Maury, entered court-ordered liquidation in July 2026. The studio previously developed the parkour game Hover before spending years crafting the Edge of Eternity universe. The closure followed severe financial restructuring and insolvency proceedings at Nacon, which acquired the independent studio in 2022. Despite the developer shutting its doors this summer, Nacon is pushing the finished game to market on its scheduled date.

The audio production remains a major focal point for the series. Longtime Midgar Studio collaborator Cédric Menendez composed the score, bringing in notable guest vocalists to flesh out the soundscape. Emi Evans, widely known for her invented-language vocals in NieR: Automata and Dark Souls, provides tracks alongside Marion Schneider.

Deluxe edition pre-order bonuses and physical steel case

Nacon's official store page outlines the launch configurations. The standard edition costs $39.99 across all platforms. A $49.99 deluxe edition adds a digital artbook tracing the visual development of Avaris, the digital soundtrack, and two cosmetic sets. The Nekaroo pack adds feline-themed outfits, and a French History pack puts the cast in revolutionary and aristocratic attire. Physical console copies of the deluxe edition also include a metallic case.

The game hits Steam and current-generation consoles simultaneously this fall. It is the last piece of the world Midgar Studio spent the better part of a decade building.
