Cyclops is bringing ricochet lasers to Marvel Rivals today
Scott Summers is the newest Duelist to join NetEase's hero shooter, bringing high-mobility optic blasts and ricochet geometry to the Season 8.5 update.
Cyclops is joining the Marvel Rivals roster today, June 12, as the newest Duelist-class character. The X-Men leader arrives alongside the Season 8.5 update. He brings his optic blasts to the free-to-play shooter across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
NetEase's 6v6 hero shooter already has a crowded roster of Marvel characters, but Scott Summers brings his own brand of geometry-based violence. He bounces lasers around corners and shouts about getting off his lawn, which feels appropriately cranky for the veteran mutant. As the 51st hero added to the game since its late 2024 launch, he fits into the high-damage Duelist category alongside characters like Iron Man, Hela, and The Punisher.
Geometry and lasers
As a Duelist, Cyclops focuses entirely on damage output and mobility. His signature ruby quartz visor fires standard optic blasts for direct damage, but his real utility comes from manipulating the environment. He can shoot enemies head-on or bank shots off walls to hit targets hiding out of sight. Marvel Rivals is built around fully destructible environments where players can smash through walls and floors to create new sightlines. Having a character who can bounce projectiles around those freshly created corners changes how teams need to approach cover.

He also has a surprising amount of verticality. Unlike some of the ground-bound shooters on the roster, Cyclops uses his eye beams to propel himself backward or launch into the air.

This lets him reposition quickly when flanked by a dive character or find a better vantage point to rain down lasers on an objective point.
His kit heavily relies on area control.

A multi-target laser ability creates a chaotic web of red beams across the arena. This attack turns tight corridors into a nightmare for the opposing team. They either have to retreat or take heavy damage while pushing the payload.
Team synergy and ultimate power
Marvel Rivals places a heavy emphasis on Team-Up abilities where specific characters combine their powers. Cyclops pairs up with Wolverine for a move called Blast Slash. This lets the two X-Men veterans coordinate their damage output. It adds another layer of strategy during character selection. Teams are rewarded for drafting heroes with built-in synergy rather than just picking their favorites.
His ultimate ability is exactly what you would expect from the character: a massive, screen-filling red optic blast that melts everything in its path. He triggers the attack by yelling "To me, my X-Men," tapping into the comic book catchphrase. It functions similarly to other massive beam ultimates in the genre and requires good positioning to catch as many enemies as possible before they scatter.
The Season 8.5 update
The addition of Cyclops is part of a much larger update for the game. Season 8.5 also introduces the K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena, a new map tied to a massive 18v18 Bounty Annihilation game mode. The sheer scale of an 18v18 mode is a major departure from the standard 6v6 format the game normally relies on. Throwing a ricochet-heavy character like Cyclops into an arena with 35 other players seems like a recipe for absolute chaos, which is likely exactly what NetEase intended.
The game has maintained a steady cadence of updates since it first dropped in 2024. The roster now includes a mix of A-list Avengers and deeper comic cuts. Dropping a core X-Men leader into the mix this far into the game's lifespan is a smart move, especially given how well his geometry-based kit translates to the destructible arenas. Players jumping into the new 18v18 mode today will want to watch their angles.
