Castlevania: Belmont's Curse has a release date and a familiar voice cast

Konami has announced an October 15 release date and the full English voice cast for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. The 2D action game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The game was first revealed back in February during a PlayStation State of Play. This new update focuses heavily on the vocal talent, and the roster pulls directly from the Netflix animated universe. Graham McTavish returns as Dracula. Alejandra Reynoso is back as Sypha Belnades. JB Blanc is also on board as Trevor Belmont.

The Paris trip

Abby Trott takes the lead role as Rose Belmont in a story that picks up in 1499. That places it exactly 23 years after the events of the original Castlevania III. Rose is the daughter of Trevor and Sypha, and she travels to Paris to fight monsters in the burning city streets.

Evil Empire and Motion Twin are co-developing the project with Konami. These two studios previously collaborated on the Return to Castlevania expansion for Dead Cells. That DLC was essentially a dry run for a full game in the franchise. They already proved they know how to build combat mechanics for this specific style of action platformer.

Liam O'Brien reprises his role as Isaac, a character he originally voiced in 2005's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox. The timeline is getting a bit crowded with Belmonts, but I'm curious to see how this specific team handles a traditional linear entry.

The rest of the cast fills out familiar roles from the series history. Ray Chase plays The Fallen. Erica Lindbeck voices Joan of Arc. Melique Berger takes on Medusa, and Aaron LaPlante voices Death. Dawn M. Bennett plays Carmilla, who appears as a major boss encounter in the new footage.

Cards and whips

The trailer shows standard side-scrolling action in gothic environments. Rose fights enemies in a crumbling hall and navigates a clock tower with an intricate glowing background. She uses a whip and a deck of magical tarot cards in combat. The cards appear to function as secondary weapons or spells, which makes sense given her mother's background in magic.

The PlayStation Store currently lists the standard edition at $29.99. There is also a Midnight Edition mentioned in the store data, though Konami hasn't detailed what extras come with that version.

The game launches simultaneously across all supported hardware this October. It's a busy month for releases, but a traditional 2D action game at a lower price point might find plenty of room to breathe.
