Capcom Europe announced its Gamescom 2026 lineup this week. The publisher is bringing four playable games to its booth in Hall 9. The list includes the newly revealed Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Mega Man: Dual Override.

The roster also includes Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen and the ongoing fighting game Street Fighter 6.

Two decades in the making

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the biggest surprise on the list. The samurai survival horror series has been mostly dormant since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Capcom released a high-definition remaster of the original Onimusha: Warlords in 2019. A brand new entry is something action game fans have requested for twenty years.

The franchise originally started development as a ninja-themed spin-off of Resident Evil for the original PlayStation. It eventually evolved into its own distinct property on the PlayStation 2. The early games used pre-rendered backgrounds and tank controls to create a tense atmosphere. The core loop revolved around a magical gauntlet used to absorb the souls of defeated Genma demons. Players used these souls to upgrade weapons and heal.

By the time Onimusha 3: Demon Siege released in 2004, the property had morphed into a fast-paced character action game. The third entry even included actor Jean Reno as a time-traveling French cop. The franchise has a bizarre history. Way of the Sword has a lot of different eras to draw inspiration from. It is unclear if the new game will return to fixed-camera roots or adopt the modern over-the-shoulder perspective seen in the recent Resident Evil remakes.

Hopefully it stays in two dimensions

Mega Man: Dual Override is the other major reveal. The Blue Bomber's last mainline outing was Mega Man 11 in 2018. That game successfully modernized the classic jump-and-shoot formula with 3D models on a 2D plane.

Capcom has spent the last several years repackaging its back catalog. These compilations sold well. They proved there is still an active audience for the character. Dual Override is the first completely new project to emerge from this renewed interest.

The word "Dual" in the title suggests a two-protagonist structure. The publisher has a long history of pairing Mega Man with a foil, like Zero in the X series or Bass in the classic games. The subtitle "Override" sounds vaguely cybernetic. That might point toward the aesthetic of the Game Boy Advance era.

The franchise's historical attempts at full 3D action have been rough.

Reusing a familiar subtitle

The title Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings back a familiar naming convention. The original Dragon's Dogma received its Dark Arisen expansion in 2013. That add-on introduced the punishing Bitterblack Isle dungeon. It also completely overhauled the base game's fast travel economy by distributing more Portcrystals and lowering the cost of Ferrystones.

The inclusion of 'Dark Arisen' in the title for Dragon's Dogma 2 suggests a similar structure, where players can likely expect a massive new endgame area designed to test high-level characters. This new entry gives the development team an opportunity to address potential player feedback.

Finally, Street Fighter 6 rounds out the booth. The fighting game launched in 2023 and is currently deep into its post-launch support cycle. The game completely reset the competitive scene with its Drive Gauge system and modernized control scheme. Gamescom attendees will likely get their hands on the newest DLC characters before they roll out to the public.

Gamescom 2026 takes place this August in Cologne, Germany. Hall 9 is traditionally reserved for major publishers, and Capcom is clearly bringing out its heavy hitters for the European crowd.
