Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeon Boost hits consoles in August
Taito has detailed the upcoming console release of Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeon Boost. The action game arrives this August with new bonus rooms and items.
Taito has announced that Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeon Boost, a free major update to the existing game 'Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons', will launch on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 on August 20, 2026. The base game, 'Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons', originally launched on November 27, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Steam players who already own the base Sugar Dungeon game will receive the Boost content as a free major update on the exact same day.
The Bubble Bobble franchise turns 40 years old this year. Taito has kept the series alive through various iterations, from the puzzle spin-off Puzzle Bobble to modern revivals like Bubble Bobble 4 Friends. Sugar Dungeon represents a slightly different take on the formula. It blends classic bubble-blowing arcade action with roguelite dungeon progression. You still trap enemies in bubbles and pop them, but now you are gathering materials to permanently upgrade your stats between runs.
I love all things Bubble Bobble related. The main theme music is often stuck in my head for days at a time. So I am particularly excited that Taito will have a booth at EVO Japan 2026, held at Tokyo Big Sight for three days from May 1 to May 3. They will be hosting an early play session where you can experience the dungeon stages of this game. Not that I'll be able to go. But you should if you can!

Three doors to choose from
The Boost update introduces new ways to navigate the dungeon stages. Passing through a Bobble Gate now gives players a choice of three destinations in the Bobble Room. You can pick a Skip Gate to move forward quickly, or dive into the newly added Item Room and Combo Room stages.
The Combo Room is built for players who prefer to grind out currency through skill. Clearing enemies quickly in this room increases your konpeito yield and actually rewinds the Skel-Monsta timer. That timer dictates when the invincible ghost enemy spawns to chase you out of the stage, a mechanic that has been terrifying arcade players since the 1980s.

A cake from 1983
The Item Room drops random treasure chests containing ingredients, skill bubbles, and new temporary items that disappear when you return to the lobby. The new By-Gummy item doubles the ingredients you pull from treasure chests during a run. You use these materials back at the shop to upgrade Bubblun or trade for other items. The Golden Konpeito does the exact same thing for your konpeito currency drops.
Another new addition is the Chack'n Heart. This item takes the form of a cake and grants temporary invincibility. Bubblun can then defeat enemies just by tackling them. This is a direct reference to the original 1986 arcade game, which itself borrowed the Chack'n Heart from Taito's 1983 maze game Chack'n Pop.
I need that 113-page digital artbook
The Digital Deluxe Edition of the base game 'Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons' includes a 113-page digital artbook. This artbook contains concept art, character design documents, and specific visual materials.
Taito has a long history of excellent physical collector's editions. The standard physical edition will also be available at retail for those who just want the cartridge.
