Borfes and the Five Demons is out now on Switch
Crystal Soft's 1987 MSX action RPG has joined the EGGCONSOLE lineup on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Crystal Soft's 1987 MSX action RPG Borfes and the Five Demons launched today on the Nintendo Switch eShop. D4 Enterprise released the port under its EGGCONSOLE label. The release brings the vintage top-down adventure to a modern console.
The game originally debuted on the MSX home computer system. You play as Borfes, an apprentice wizard tasked with defeating a great demon named Naikin Naikis. It's a standard top-down action setup that expands as you find new items. Borfes starts with a simple staff. He eventually picks up a bow, speed-boosting boots, and a protective suit.
Pots and demons
The main hook involves collecting pots that allow Borfes to summon four different demons to assist him in combat. The trailer shows off a few late-game encounters with massive golems and blue spiders, which should give you a pretty clear idea of what the difficulty curve looks like once you get past the opening areas.
Project EGG previously released this title on PC back in July 2020. The Switch version uses the standard EGGCONSOLE emulation wrapper. It includes support for USB keyboards if you want the authentic 1980s computer input experience.
The game is available now on the Japanese eShop. Most EGGCONSOLE releases remain untranslated, so you shouldn't expect English menus.
