Operation Rainfall

NIS America is publishing a physical PlayStation 5 version of FuRyu's upcoming survival horror game, ANOMALITH. The physical Launch Edition hits retail on November 12, 2026, priced at $59.99. This physical drop arrives two weeks after the game's digital launch, which is still scheduled for October 29 across the PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Fans of physical media have been waiting to see who would pick up the distribution rights for the West, and NISA stepping in makes perfect sense given their history with the publisher.

According to Operation Rainfall, NISA is only handling the PS5 version for this physical run. There is no word on a Switch 2 cartridge. The $59.99 package includes a handful of digital bonuses, mostly consisting of early-game crutches and cosmetics. Buyers get a "Lost Property Control Organization" collaboration mission, an "Armed Schoolgirl" outfit with two color variants, a delivery staff uniform, and a drone skin. It also packs in a few prototype weapons, specifically a semi-automatic sniper rifle, a double-barreled shotgun, and a prototype handgun. A handful of consumable item sets and 20 rounds of handgun ammo round out the bundle to help with early progression.

Showa-era liminal spaces

FuRyu originally revealed the game back in May. It is a third-person shooter set in an alternate Showa-era Japan, where spatial anomalies known as "Otherworlds" have started appearing without warning. The government's "Danger Zone Countermeasures Office" has completely failed to contain the threat. You play as investigator Reona Minazuki, fighting through these liminal spaces. The development is being handled by Winning Entertainment Group, the studio formerly known as Natsume Atari before their recent rebranding.

They are mostly known lately for excellent retro revivals under their Tengo Project banner, including Pocky & Rocky Reshrined and Shadow of the Ninja Reborn. Jumping from 16-bit arcade action to a mid-budget 3D horror shooter is a massive pivot, and I am curious to see how their combat design translates to a fully 3D space.

I'm just here for the soundtrack

The creative team is what makes this project interesting. FuRyu brought in Romeo Tanaka to write the scenario, and he has a solid track record with complex visual novels like Rewrite and Humanity Has Declined. He is handling the world lore and the narrative structure. Yuka Kitamura is composing the score. She left FromSoftware in 2023 after defining the sound of Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring.

Hearing her grand orchestral style applied to a weird, alternate-history Japanese anomaly shooter is easily the biggest selling point. The enemy designs shown so far lean heavily into surreal, shifting geometry, which should pair perfectly with Kitamura's haunting string arrangements.

Digital comes first

The two-week gap between the digital and physical releases is annoying but standard for these niche publishing deals. NIS America frequently partners with FuRyu to get their games onto Western store shelves, having done the exact same dance for titles like Monark and The Caligula Effect: Overdose. If you want to play on day one, the digital versions unlock on October 29 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Physical collectors will just have to dodge spoilers until November 12.
