Ankama's action roguelite Savara just hit PS5 and Xbox
The Hades-meets-Monster-Hunter combat game from Doryah Games is now available on consoles after a year on PC.
Doryah Games and publisher Ankama have released the action roguelite Savara on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S today. The console ports arrive just over a year after the game's initial PC launch on Steam in May 2025.
If the publisher's name sounds familiar, Ankama is the French studio behind the massive MMO DOFUS. Savara takes place in that same Krosmoz universe. It drops players into the dimension of Iop, the god of combat. You play as the god's newest champion. Your job is to survive a violent combat festival to keep his favor.
Breaking defenses
The combat loop borrows ideas from both Hades and Monster Hunter. You run through rooms fighting increasingly difficult monsters across three main levels. You cannot just button-mash your way to the end. Enemies have specific weaknesses and attack patterns that require you to manage your stamina and time your dodges.
You also have to break enemy defenses before you can do real damage. This requires swapping between different weapon types on the fly. The game has four main weapon styles: thrusting, slashing, one-handed, and two-handed. Each style has multiple variants. This allows for hundreds of potential build combinations depending on your playstyle.
The visual style leans heavily into vibrant, saturated colors and flashy particle effects. Combat screens often fill with lightning strikes, green energy blasts, and circular area-of-effect indicators. The aesthetic is a stark contrast to the grim tone of many modern action games. Even the massive, multi-legged boss creatures are rendered with bright accents and clean, readable animations.
Forging new gear
Between runs, you collect materials from defeated bosses to forge new gear at the blacksmith and upgrade your base stats. The weapon variety is a major focus. The blacksmith menu shows detailed stats for weapons like the Skywing and Sengo. Players must weigh raw damage against attack speed and range.
The RPG mechanics run deep. You can tweak specific perks like "Verdict's Impact" and "Destroyer" to fine-tune your damage output. A separate "Judgment" system further complicates these choices. This mechanic allows players to stack passive buffs that trigger under specific combat conditions. Building a character that can survive the later stages of the festival requires a good understanding of how these passive skills interact with your chosen weapon.
There are also over 90 divine blessings to find during active runs. These act as temporary modifiers that let you customize your build around specific elemental effects or defensive buffs.
Cross-platform progress
The game originally launched on Steam to a very positive reception. PC players praised the tight controls and the steady progression curve. The year-long gap between the PC and console releases gave Doryah Games time to refine the balance and patch out early bugs. The console versions include all the updates and content additions from the PC version's first year.
The console release brings a few platform-specific details. The Xbox version supports Xbox Play Anywhere. A digital purchase gets you both the console and Windows PC versions with shared save data. The PlayStation 5 version fully supports the DualSense controller, though players can disable adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in the accessibility menus.
It is a surprisingly deep combat system from Doryah Games. The studio was founded in 2022 by a small team of 15 developers fresh out of school. Ankama is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Letting a new studio build a fast-paced action game in the Krosmoz setting is a smart way to expand the universe beyond traditional MMOs.
